Drafter / Steel Detailer Job Description
General Summary
The Drafter / Detailing Engineer reports to the Senior Engineer and is responsible for creating detailed steel shop drawings using Tekla and various CAD software. Work will primarily be in the North American steel industry. Familiarity with steel structure design and relevant codes is a plus.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Review structural drawings and specifications for layout and modeling
- Produce models and shop drawings based on structural drawings and specifications
- Manage material orders and material change orders
- Check and revise models and drawings
- Manage detailing assignments and ensure work is completed on time and under budget.
- Manage detail checking assignments and ensure work is completed on time and under budget.
- Provide coordination and technical support to subcontractors performing various detailing and modeling assignments.
- Develop programs to automate detailing assignments when cost/time effective.
Education
- Experoence drafting for Civil Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
- Formal training with Tekla structures preferred.
Work Experience

Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Mastery in Excel
- Proficiency with MS Office
- Proficiency with TEKLA Structures
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, or other drafting software
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
Applicants must be able to work at the Lynhurst, NJ office. This position requires sitting and working in front of a computer for long periods of time during the day.
