What exactly would I do?
As the Assistant Director, Advancement Systems & Operations, you will serve as an operational and strategic leader of the Richmond Symphony’s fundraising infrastructure. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, you will be the primary administrator of Bloomerang and related Advancement technologies, owning system configuration, reporting, automations, integrations, and user support. You will embody the Symphony’s core values of inclusion, passion, quality, innovation, and welcoming while helping the organization achieve its annual contributed income goal of $6.9M.
In this role, you will serve as the primary administrator of Bloomerang, managing system configuration, reporting, automations, and integrations to maximize fundraising operations. You will oversee gift administration, data governance, and financial controls, and develop dashboards and analytics that surface actionable insights on donor retention, campaign performance, and philanthropic growth. You will also lead donor stewardship and acknowledgement workflows, support moves management and portfolio tracking, and manage the Advancement team’s partnership with Finance. As a people leader, you will supervise and develop the Annual Fund Manager and Advancement Assistant while actively participating in concerts, donor events, and Symphony activities throughout the season.
What qualifications and skills do I need?
The ideal candidate is curious, collaborative, and highly analytical with the ability to translate complex fundraising data into meaningful recommendations. They are a proactive problem-solver who can independently manage fundraising systems, reporting, and operational workflows, and an experienced people leader who can coach and develop staff to achieve individual and team success.
A bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising operations, donor services, or nonprofit administration is required, along with a demonstrated track record of administering and optimizing a CRM or fundraising database. Experience managing and developing staff is essential, as is the ability to work a robust schedule of evenings and weekends. A genuine interest in the performing arts and the mission of the Richmond Symphony is a must.
What’s the compensation and benefits?
This is a full-time exempt position with a salary of $65,000 and benefits including health, dental, telemedicine, vision, disability, and instrument insurances, a flexible spending or health savings account, flexible paid time off, sick leave, and free parking. A combination of in-person and remote work is possible. A strong presence and participation at evening and/or weekend performances, donor events, and other Symphony activities is expected.
