Position Overview
As a fractional CFO serving nonprofit organizations at CEFO Advisors, you will work with exciting mission-driven clients of varying sizes and complexity. You will manage client engagements and work directly with executive directors, finance committees, and boards to strengthen financial strategy, ensure compliance, and help organizations advance their missions with confidence. You will provide the forward-looking guidance leaders rely on to make informed, sustainable decisions.
You must be based within 60 miles of Saratoga Springs, NY and able to commute to our offices and client sites as needed.
Job Responsibilities

Review financial information and prepare client dashboards

Provide regular strategic advice to executive directors and their leadership teams

Review existing systems and recommend best practices to gain efficiency

Manage internal and external accounting staff

Prepare and/or review budgets, forecasts, and projection models

Develop and maintain long-range financial plans and cash flow strategies
-
Participate in client leadership, board, and finance committee meetings

Develop banking relationships and support financing and lending needs
-
Identify and correct existing client pain points
-
Work hand in hand with clients to develop future strategic plans and milestones to success

Prepare and analyze client assessment reports and manage implementation projects
Nonprofit-Specific Responsibilities

Provide CFO-level oversight of fund accounting, including restricted vs. unrestricted funds
-
Guide grant strategy, budgeting, compliance, and funder reporting across multiple funding streams
-
Prepare board-ready financial packages and present financials to boards and finance committees
- Advise on cost allocation, reserve planning, and long-term financial sustainability

Support audit readiness and coordinate with auditors and third-party CPA firms

Ensure adherence to GAAP for nonprofit organizations and applicable regulatory requirements

Qualifications
-
15+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, culminating in CFO or executive-level financial leadership responsibility

Minimum 5 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations

Strong command of nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, grant compliance, and board reporting

Ability to coach, mentor, and lead accounting staff

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required

Experience with QuickBooks, Sage products, and similar ERP systems; ability to adapt quickly to various client systems

Experience with new system implementation is a plus!

CPA, MBA, or CMA a plus!

Mix of public accounting and private/nonprofit experience preferred
