Program Description:
City Beet Kitchens, a part of Project Renewal, is a nonprofit social enterprise in New York City, serving high-quality food while creating job opportunities for individuals facing barriers to employment. Originally established in 1995 as Comfort Foods and rebranded in 2015, we operate across two divisions: institutional catering for shelter clients and an events division serving corporate and private clients.
Overall Responsibilities:
The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen equipment, pots, pans, utensils, and work areas in compliance with health and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties of the Dishwasher include but are not limited to the following activities:
- Wash and sanitize all pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment in a timely manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the dishwashing and pot washing areas.
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors daily; ensure all spills are cleaned promptly.
- Clean the walk-in refrigerator weekly, including walls, floors, and shelving.
- Complete and maintain temperature logs for the walk-in refrigerator.
- Distribute clean rags and cleaning supplies as needed.
- Assist with deliveries and ensure proper storage of items upon receipt.
- Support recycling and garbage removal as outlined in the schedule below
- Garbage and Recycling:
Tuesday – Recycling: clear bags (cardboard, plastics, and cans)
Thursday – Regular garbage: Black bags
Sunday – Regular garbage: Black bags
Requirements:
- Prior experience in a commercial kitchen preferred.
- Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Punctual, reliable, and able to follow instructions with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Requires NYC Food Handler's Certificate
- Formal culinary arts training and/ or institutional cooking experience
- Must be a team player and able to work flexible shifts
This is a full-time position. Hours and shifts may vary depending on the needs of the kitchen. Some weekend and holiday work may be required.
