TITLE: Teacher – Middle School Orchestra
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To teach the sequential skills, content, and attitudes necessary to develop a musically literate student body through exposure, and enrichment opportunities in music. To teach techniques of instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

Bachelor Degree

Arizona Elementary or Secondary Certification with Music endorsement

SEI or full Bilingual or ESL endorsement
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach foundations of playing a musical instrument (orchestra) to pupils. Teach fundamental principles of music theory and musicianship skills. Build musical instrument proficiency.

Plan a balanced music and drama program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.

Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil and prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.

Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide on orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.

Evaluate each pupil’s musical and dramatic growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.

Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community. Participate in district-wide festivals, and honor programs. Cooperate with school administration in providing programs for school productions, and civic functions.

Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.

Maintain an accurate inventory of district and school owned instruments, method books, instrument parts and supplies. Control the storage and use of equipment and materials; make minor repairs and request further repairs to instruments as required.

Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.

Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or self-selected professional growth activities and collaborate with colleagues as necessary.

Participate in school and district meetings, committees and workshops as appropriate.

Apply knowledge of state and district policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.
