Nissan of Costa Mesa is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automotive Dealership Controller to oversee all financial operations within our dealership. This dynamic role requires a proactive leader who can manage complex accounting functions, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive financial accuracy and transparency. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in accounting principles, financial reporting, and team management to support the dealership’s growth and operational excellence. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a vital role in maintaining financial integrity, optimizing cash flow, and ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Oversee general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, and month-end closing processes to guarantee accurate financial reporting.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and customer billing.
- Conduct cost accounting analysis to monitor dealership expenses, margins, and profitability metrics.
- Ensure regulatory compliance accounting practices are followed meticulously across all financial activities, including SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and governmental reporting standards.
- Supervise the treasury management functions such as cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and liquidity management.
- Oversee payroll processing and manage budgeting activities to support strategic planning initiatives.
- Utilize advanced spreadsheets and Excel data analysis techniques to identify trends, improve processes, and support financial decision-making.
- Lead the finance team by managing accounting staff, providing mentorship, training on accounting systems, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Prepare detailed financial reports for internal stakeholders and external auditors; ensure timely submission of regulatory reports.
Experience
- Proven experience in corporate accounting with a focus on automotive dealerships or similar retail environments.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, regulatory compliance accounting, governmental accounting standards, and public accounting practices.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial software systems such as ERP platforms or dealership management systems; proficiency in spreadsheets and Excel data analysis is essential.
- Experience managing accounting teams with a track record of developing talent and improving team performance.
- Familiarity with technical accounting concepts including double entry bookkeeping, account analysis, account reconciliation, and financial close processing.
- Ability to perform complex financial analysis, forecasting, budget management, and cost control strategies effectively.
- Knowledge of international accounting standards as applicable to multi-region operations is a plus.
