Overview: Sportable Richmond Adaptive Sports and Recreation is an adaptive sports, recreation, health, and wellness organization that aspires to be the best in the country at providing sporting and recreational opportunities to those with physical disabilities, visual impairments, and those requiring physical accommodations.
Job Description: The Adaptive Programs Assistant provides essential operational and on-site support across Sportable’s diverse service lines. Working closely with Program Coordinators and Directors, this role ensures the high-quality execution of practices, clinics, wellness sessions, and competitive events. The Program Assistant is a "hands-on" role, focusing on equipment logistics, athlete check-in, and real-time support to ensure a safe, inclusive, and high-energy environment for athletes of all ages and abilities. While the Assistant may be asked to support any of Sportable's adaptive programs, this position is currently seeking additional, dedicated support for our cycling, road racing, archery, lacrosse, and aquatics programs.
Category Type: This is a part-time, hourly position. Frequent night and weekend work is required.
Responsibilities:
On-Site Program Execution
- Tactical Support: Support Program Coordinators in the setup and breakdown of equipment for various activities, ranging from competitive team sports to 55+ active lifestyle sessions.
- Athlete Engagement: Assist with athlete check-in, attendance tracking, and providing on-field support to ensure participants are safely positioned and prepared for activity.
- Volunteer Liaison: Act as a point of contact for volunteers during program sessions, ensuring they are briefed on their roles and have the tools they need to succeed.
- Environment Management: Monitor program sites (gyms, parks, trails, etc.) to ensure safety protocols are followed and assist with any immediate logistical needs.
Equipment & Logistics Support
- Equipment Stewardship: Assist in the routine maintenance, cleaning, and organized storage of adaptive sports and wellness equipment, including the Sportable vehicle fleet and trailers.
- Inventory Tracking: Help maintain accurate inventory records and proactively report any needs for repairs or replacements to the relevant Director.
- Event Logistics: Provide "all-hands" support for major special events, tournaments, and community wellness days, including equipment transport and site management.
Administrative Assistance
- Data Integrity: Support the accuracy of program records by entering attendance and participation data into Salesforce or other tracking systems following program sessions.
- Program Readiness: Assist in preparing rosters, printing waivers, and organizing program-specific materials for upcoming seasons.
- Internal Communication: Support the team in sending routine updates or reminders to athletes and volunteers regarding schedule changes or weather-related cancellations.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or a related field is preferred.
- CTRS Certification preferred, but not required.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience working with individuals with disabilities or active lifestyle adults (55+), preferably in a sports, recreation, or community wellness setting.
- Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- Reliable personal transportation is required to travel between various program sites across the Greater Richmond area.
- Proven physical capability to perform the manual tasks required for equipment setup, including lifting up to 50 lbs and navigating various terrain (fields, courts, docks).
- Proficiency in basic digital tools, including Google Suite; experience with Salesforce or similar databases is a plus.
- Flexible schedule, with the consistent ability to work evenings and weekends based on the seasonal program calendar.

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
