TITLE: Maintenance Mechanic DEPARTMENT: Production REPORTS TO: Plant Manager EMPLOYMENT Temporary Full-Time Part-Time FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Exempt
Job Function: Perform routine and extensive preventative maintenance, perform repairs on company buildings, mechanical equipment, utility systems and grounds. Paint and clean parts as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for keeping an inventory on parts to ensure that back up parts are available for all machines
- Responsible for keeping machines in strong working order at all times
- Responsible to ensure that production continues without interruption during production periods
- Perform minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or replaces broken parts.
- Maintain and repair pneumatic systems
- Building maintenance including windows, doors, locks, etc.
- Complete daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building and equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures
- Operate a computer which contains the program to monitor maintenance activity
- Maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures in the computer program
- Install and repair basic electrical wiring and equipment
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required
- Assist with renovation/remodeling of buildings; repairs plaster and drywall; paints building structures
- Perform outside custodial duties such as snow removal as required
- May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts
- Understanding of maintenance and basic repair of single and three phase electrical equipment
- Understanding of maintenance and basic repair of refrigeration equipment including chillers and heat exchangers
- Strong understanding of the maintenance repair and function of various sanitary, FDA approved pumps
- Strong understanding of maintenance and repair of food processing equipment (i.e. Puree machines, heat exchangers, sanitary tanks, piping and all peripheral equipment)
- Understanding of maintenance and repair of electronic monitoring devices (i.e. metal detectors, chart recorders, and motor controllers)
- Light fabrication skills of sanitary equipment
- Responsible for rotating through breaks and lunches as requested to avoid stopping production
- Responsible to make sure all drains outside plant are clear and clean
- Responsible for operation and oversight of routine maintenance of all equipment
- Responsible for operation and oversight of wastewater disposal system
- Responsible for cleaning and maintaining all aspects of wastewater. Discharge pond and associated equipment
- Responsible for reporting any food safety concern and empowered to do so

- Responsible to keep all outside drains clean and clear allowing no standing water

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: The Individual must complete the following training according to QP-291:
1) New Employee Food Safety Training: Once prior to starting work
2) All WCFSTP modules according to the needs analysis: once in the first year of employment
3) Refresher Training: as needed according to QP-291:6.0
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five years of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Good skill in the use of hand and power tools.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write effective correspondence and communicate. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Driver's License required. Appropriate trade license preferred.
