Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Innovate UNCG Incubator supports members of the UNCG community as they turn ideas into impact. Bringing together a variety of offices, initiatives, and sources of expertise, we offer support related to entrepreneurship, social innovation and social entrepreneurship, IP protection, licensing, and more. UNCG innovators connect through our virtual community of practice and school- and college-based innovation hubs.
Position Summary
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) seeks a highly skilled and visionary leader to serve as the Associate Director for Engaged Research Centers and Institutes within the Division of Research and Engagement. The Associate Director will provide research development, business development, and strategic direction to strengthen and expand the university’s engaged research portfolio. This position is responsible for enhancing the competitiveness of UNCG’s centers and institutes, increasing their external funding, and advancing their role in addressing critical community, regional, and national challenges.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in a research-related discipline, business, public administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in research development, external funding, business development, or higher education leadership.
- Demonstrated success in securing external funding from federal, state, foundation, or industry sources.
- Strong record of building partnerships across academia, government, industry, and community organizations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and strategic planning skills.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing or supporting research centers, institutes, or large-scale collaborative initiatives.
- Familiarity with federal sponsor priorities, funding review processes, and regional economic development landscapes.
- Proven ability to align research initiatives with community needs and economic development goals.
