About Us
Florida Armory Gun Shop is expanding into precision CNC machining and custom firearm manufacturing. We are investing in professional CNC equipment and are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist/Programmer to help establish our machining operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for a retired machinist, independent contractor, or experienced programmer looking for flexible part-time work with the potential to grow into a full-time leadership role.
Responsibilities
- Program and operate a CNC vertical machining center
- Create CAM toolpaths using Fusion 360 (preferred)
- Set up tooling, work offsets, and fixtures
- Machine precision aluminum and steel components
- Develop repeatable manufacturing processes
- Verify dimensions using precision measuring equipment
- Recommend tooling, workholding, and machining strategies
- Train and mentor our team, including a new machinist learning CAD/CAM and CNC operation
- Troubleshoot machining and programming issues
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years of CNC milling experience
- Experience with Haas, Tormach, or similar CNC mills
- Fusion 360, Mastercam, or other CAM software
- G-code editing and optimization
- Precision fixture design and workholding
- Tight tolerance machining (±0.001" or better)
- Aluminum, stainless steel, and tool steel machining
- Experience in aerospace, medical, defense, or firearms manufacturing is highly preferred
Bonus Qualifications
Experience machining:
- Optic cuts
- Slide lightening cuts
- Barrel porting
- AR-style receivers
- Custom firearm components
Firearm industry experience is a plus but not required. We value precision machining experience above all else.
Schedule
- Flexible schedule
- Approximately 10–20 hours per week
- One to three days per week
- Consulting and project-based work available
As our production volume increases, this position is expected to transition into a full-time opportunity for the right candidate. We are looking for someone interested in helping build and grow our CNC machining department for the long term.
