Position: Assistant Cook
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Program Manager
Role Summary
The Assistant Cook is responsible for assisting the Lead Cook with the daily meal and snack preparation for clients at Pathways to Housing programs. This position is responsible for all day-to-day kitchen operations, assuring compliance with health and safety standards and managing the kitchen when the Lead Cook is off.
Responsibilities/ Essential Functions

1. Ability to be sensitive to medically fragile clients who are experiencing homelessness.
2. Ability to communicate effectively and develop rapport with clients in a residential setting.
3. Provide support to clients as needed
4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and supervisors.
5. Maintain cleanliness and functionality of kitchen equipment daily
6. Complete duties check list daily
7. Maintain organized, safe, and clean working environment.
8. Assist with dish washing duties daily
9. Ensure all food stock is dated and labeled and stored properly
10. Ensure client eating area is clean and stocked daily
11. Follow pre-determined weekly menu
12. Prepare daily meals and stock snack table.
13. Assist in keeping the kitchen stocked with essential items. Collaborate with local food banks as needed.
14. Always ensure safe food storage practices.
15. Pick up, receive, and process donations as needed
16. Maintain temperature logs on all required equipment daily.
17. Maintain temperature logs on all food that is prepared daily.
18. Maintain proper required certificates.
19. Follow proper food handling and safety protocols
20. Maintain grooming/dress requirements.
21. Maintain knowledge of food service methods and safety precautions.
22. Adhere to all policies and procedures
23. Provide daily report to management via email.
24. All shifts require staff to stay awake and alert throughout the entire shift.
25. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
1. Possess a valid CPR and First Aid certificate – within 1 week of hire.
2. Possess a valid Food Handler’s Safety Card.
3. Previous cook experience – 1 year preferred.
Education and Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Knowledge of medically restrictive diets preferred.

Work Environment
The employee must be able to work in a variety of temperatures inside the kitchen and as well as within the building. The noise level may be moderate at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a kitchen setting.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is a moderate physical position that will require bending, stooping, stretching, twisting, reaching, pulling and regularly lifting up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, use of hands to grasp, move or assemble objects, wrist bending, use of equipment and materials and dealing with the outside elements. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a Full-time position, up to 40 hours. Days and hours of work include weekends and holidays. Overtime hours may be required as needed.
