Maine Solar Solutions is Maine's well established & growing solar electric company, and we're looking for someone who loves both the technical side of solar and the satisfaction of keeping complex service operations running like clockwork.
This is a genuinely unique role — part hands-on service technician, part service coordinator, part administrative backbone. You'll split your time between the field and the office: one day troubleshooting a system at a customer's home, the next ensuring service jobs are dispatched, documented, and invoiced correctly. You'll be the critical link between our service crews and our internal operations.
This role also carries real growth potential. As our service department expands, we see this position evolving into a lead role with direct responsibility for managing a small team of service technicians — giving the right person a clear path toward team leadership.
If you're someone who thrives in both environments, takes pride in getting the details right, and wants to grow with a team that genuinely invests in its people — we'd love to meet you.
Who We Are
Established in 2012, Maine Solar Solutions designs, procures, installs, and services solar electric systems for residential and commercial customers throughout CMP's territory. We're built around our people — a strong, diverse team of kind, creative, and dedicated individuals who want to find purpose in their work and support each other along the way.
We invest in people, want to see them grow, and empower them to bring new ideas and innovations to life.
What You'll Do
Field Service Work
- Perform hands-on service and maintenance work on residential and commercial solar PV systems alongside our service crews.
- Assist with commissioning and final monitoring setup for serviced systems, particularly those involving SolarEdge, Enphase, and Tesla.
- Troubleshoot solar electrical issues in the field — Arc Faults, Ground Faults, inverter and optimizer replacements, and battery backup systems.
- Represent Maine Solar Solutions professionally during customer site visits, delivering a high standard of service and communication.
Technical Support & Documentation
- Provide technical guidance to service crews on solar PV systems and components, including Enphase, SolarEdge, Tigo, and Tesla Powerwall.
- Maintain and update technical documentation and service crew reference materials.
Service Coordination & Administration
- Coordinate scheduling and dispatching of service crews, ensuring efficient routing and prioritization of service calls.
- Track service jobs from initial request through completion, keeping all stakeholders informed along the way.
- Coordinate with our Finance team on invoicing for service projects — ensuring correct work order numbers and accurate supporting documentation.
- Ensure all service documentation and work orders are accurate, complete, and properly filed.
Team Leadership & Growth
- As the service department grows, take on direct responsibility for managing a team of service technicians — including scheduling, mentoring, and quality oversight.
- Help build the systems, documentation, and processes that allow a growing service team to operate efficiently and consistently.
- Act as a point of escalation for field issues, ensuring service crews have the guidance and resources they need to succeed.
Systems & Organization
- Use project management tools (Trello, Salesforce) to track job status, service crew reports, and overall workflow.
- Maintain accurate records for technician credentials and service history.
What We're Looking For
You'll Need
- Proven service skills or hands-on experience in the solar, low voltage, or related industries.
- Comfort working in both field and office environments — this role requires both, often in the same week.
- Experience managing complex administrative workflows and high-volume documentation.
- Exceptional organizational skills and sharp attention to detail.
- Familiarity with solar components and installation or service processes.
- Leadership instincts — you're someone others naturally look to, and you take ownership of outcomes.
- A current and clean driver's license.
Ideally, You Also Have
- Experience with Enphase, SolarEdge, Tigo, or Tesla platforms.
- A track record of customer-facing field work — you're polished, professional, and comfortable representing a company on-site.
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring other technicians, even informally.
Physical Requirements
- Able to work safely and effectively outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Comfortable working at heights on rooftops and ladders.
- Able to repetitively lift at least 50 pounds.
Personal Characteristics We Value
- Honesty, integrity, and a genuine commitment to quality work.
- A collaborative mindset — you help others succeed and aren't afraid to ask for help yourself.
- Proactivity: you don't wait to be told. You spot problems early and bring solutions.
- Clear communication — whether with service crews in the field or colleagues in the office.
Your Background May Be Closer Than You Think
We know candidates with a perfect solar service résumé are rare. What we're really hiring for is a set of skills — many of which are developed in other technical service industries. If you've built your career in any of the fields below, there's a good chance you already have most of what it takes to excel in this role.
Security & Alarm Systems Technicians
If you install, commission, or service security systems, access control, or fire alarm systems, you likely already have:
- Low-voltage DC electrical skills directly applicable to solar inverters, optimizers, and battery systems
- Experience reading wiring diagrams and commissioning equipment — the same workflow used in solar system setup
- Troubleshooting methodology for identifying faults in networked systems (Arc Faults and Ground Faults follow similar diagnostic logic)
- Customer site visit protocols and professional communication skills
- Scheduling, dispatching, and documentation habits from managing service tickets
HVAC Technicians
HVAC service experience translates well to this role:
- Comfort working in extreme outdoor conditions year-round
- Systematic troubleshooting of complex electromechanical systems
- Managing service calls, work orders, and customer communication
- Reading and working from technical manuals and service documentation
Electricians (Apprentice or Journeyman)
Electrical trade experience is a strong foundation for this role:
- Direct understanding of DC and AC electrical systems, wiring, and fault diagnosis
- Code compliance awareness and safety discipline
- Experience coordinating with project teams and managing job documentation
Telecommunications & Cable Technicians
Field technicians from telecom and cable backgrounds bring:
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for networked and monitoring equipment
- Experience using software platforms to track, close, and document service calls
- Routing and scheduling efficiency — managing multiple stops and prioritizing calls
- Professional customer interaction across a wide range of residential and commercial sites
Service Coordinators or Dispatchers from Any Technical Field
If you've coordinated field technicians from an office role in any technical service business:
- Dispatching, scheduling, and workload management translate directly
- CRM or work order management experience (ServiceTitan, Salesforce, etc.) maps closely to our tools
- Cross-team communication and invoicing coordination are skills we rely on daily
We're happy to talk through how your background aligns. If you're not sure whether you're a fit, reach out — we'd rather have the conversation than miss a great candidate.
