Marine Drafter
As our Marine Drafter you will provide support for our engineering team. This position plays a key role in creating and modifying 2D and 3D construction drawings and systems, documenting non-conformance, improving shop processes, and troubleshooting boatbuilding issues.
JOB TASKS
- Create, modify and organize 2D drawings and 3D models for use by production staff to accurately build boats using reliable information
- Interface with regulatory bodies (USCG, ABYC, ASME) to ensure designs meet applicable codes and inspection criteria
- Assist with unrolling and creating cut files
- Maintain clear documentation throughout project lifecycle, including as-built updates and system operation manuals
- Ensure non-conformance is logged throughout the build, and apply to future builds
- Provide technical support to production staff to troubleshoot and resolve boatbuilding issues
- Evaluate and improve on shop processes & procedures with construction standards and templates
- Track and meet Engineering deliverables to support production, purchasing, and first-time quality
- Occasionally work directly with clients
Skills & Qualifications
- Proficient in CAD software preferably Rhino and SolidWorks
- Experience with 2D lines drafting and 3D drafting using solids is preferred
- Technical training or certifications in marine design, boatbuilding or manufacturing strongly preferred
- Experience in marine construction methods and boatbuilding processes
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently as well as collaborating across departments
Work Environment
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment, which can subject workers to loud levels of noise, fumes, debris, tripping hazards and sharp metal edges. Personal protective equipment will be provided, but you are responsible for ensuring that the equipment is properly used and for being aware of your surroundings.
Pay Rate
$25 - $34/hr
*Starting pay often falls between entry rate and mid-point for new hires and is based upon specific skills and experience
