About Us
Cmerek Dickerson PLLC is an Austin-based CPA firm that helps small business owners make confident financial decisions all year long — not just at filing time. We take a proactive, hands-on approach built on year-round communication: regular check-ins, summer projections, and year-end planning so our clients never face surprises or a last-minute scramble.
We serve owner-led and growing businesses that want more than a once-a-year tax relationship, delivering the kind of strategic financial clarity usually reserved for much larger companies. As we scale our client accounting services practice, we're looking for a versatile accountant who shares our commitment to real planning and genuine client relationships — and who wants to grow with the firm.
The Role
This is a blended position centered on client accounting services, with some tax work alongside it. You'll own recurring accounting engagements, clean up and adjust books for tax-only clients, prepare returns, and over time have a clear path toward CAS leadership and involvement in specialty engagements like business valuations.
It's an ideal fit for someone with a few years of public accounting under their belt who is coachable, curious, and excited to help shape a growing practice rather than just fill a seat.
What You'll Do
Client Accounting Services (primary focus)
- Manage recurring bookkeeping and month-end close for a portfolio of CAS clients
- Coach junior staff who focus on transaction coding and reconciliations
- Maintain accurate general ledgers, reconciliations, and financial statements
- Oversee payroll related services (processing, filings, etc.)
- Serve as a reliable point of contact for client accounting questions
- Help refine and document CAS workflows, templates, and processes as we scale
Tax (secondary focus)
- Review and adjust books for tax-only clients to prepare them for filing
- Prepare tax returns (primarily entity/business returns) in ProConnect Tax
- Prepare sales tax returns
- Research and resolve routine tax questions with support from the team
Growth & Leadership
- Step into a leadership role within Client Accounting Services as you develop
- Mentor and support junior staff
- Contribute to firm operations and continuous process improvement
Specialty Work
- Provide support to a partner on business valuation engagements (reviewing books, normalizing earnings, conducting industry research, etc.)
What We're Looking For
- 3-5 years of experience in a client facing public accounting role
- Bachelor’s in accounting
- Exposure across multiple public accounting service lines (attest, CAS, and/or tax)
- Strong understanding of financial statements and how the three statements relate to each other
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients
- A coachable, growth-minded approach — you take feedback well and want to keep developing
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
- Clear communication and a client-service mindset
Nice to Have
- CPA license (preferred, but not required; CPA candidates encouraged to apply)
- Audit experience for small to mid-sized organizations
- Bookkeeping clean-up experience
- Hands-on tax prep experience (ProConnect Tax or Lacerte experience a strong plus)
- Interest in or exposure to business valuation work
- Experience helping build or improve firm systems and workflows
- Experience with payroll processing, payroll tax filings, and notice resolution
- Experience with other tools we use: Google Workspace, Canopy, QuickBooks, Xero, Gusto
