The primary purpose of a Charge Nurse is to provide direct nursing care to the residents, and to direct the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Such supervision must ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. You are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
Job responsibilities include:
- Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants.
- Chart nurses’ notes that reflect the care provided as well as the resident’s response to care.
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
- Complete medical forms, reports, charting, etc. as necessary.
- Complete accident/incident reports as necessary.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Make unit rounds to ensure that personnel are performing their work assignments.
- Provide leadership to nursing personnel.
