The Recovery Advocate provides direct resident care and participates in therapeutic milieu within the scope of defined practice.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direct resident care through group and individual interactions; establishes relationships with residents that are helpful and maintains good professional boundaries.
- Attends and participates in daily rounds; responsible for taking rounds minutes and distributing to staff daily.
- Completes clear, concise and timely documentation on each shift.
- Works effectively, in collaboration with clinical staff, to manage the therapeutic milieu by providing and supervising community activities, providing residents with direction and/or supervision, as needed, and communicating information regarding therapeutic environment to clinical team in a timely manner.
- Provides resident transportation to and from all necessary appointments, community outings and ancillary activities, as assigned.
- Participates as a primary team member for new resident day of admission.
- Helps to identify resident strengths and deficits related to activities of daily living and initiates and implements interventions to meet these needs.
- Remains awake and alert at all times while on shift.
- Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency by completing mandatory staff development trainings, seeking feedback regarding work performance, and identifying strengths and areas for professional development with supervisor.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and presents in a positive and professional manner.

- Reports directly to Recovery Advocate Supervisor.
Requirements: High Diploma or GED Required, further education preferred. Experience in a residential treatment setting preferred but not required; active Driver’s License in the State of Maine and ability to satisfactorily meet program driving standards is required.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Requires demonstrated ability to exercise proper judgement, discretion, initiative, and have excellent communication skills.
- Presents and dresses professionally.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication.
- Must be CPR and First Aid certified; or training provided.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Must be comfortable answering the phones to include resident calls, family calls and calls from referral sources and business contacts.
- Able to prioritize workload to assure resident care is addressed in a timely manner.
- Must possess moderate computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
- Expected to remain awake and alert at all times.
Working conditions: Works in a typical residential psychiatric setting with residents who are experiencing a wide range of acute psychiatric conditions. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Moderate amount of walking. Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Significant mental effort involved in working with and organizing care for a diverse resident population.
Pay: From $21.00 per hour
