Provides complex technical support and assistance in the collection and analysis of oncology data to develop and maintain a comprehensive cancer database. Assists in other activities of the oncology data program to maintain approval by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons, and compliance with State and national agencies. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with St. Luke's mission and values.
Principal Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent
1. Cancer Registry Active Casefinding: 25%
- Make determination of eligibility according to SEER ICD-O reportable
diagnosis codes.
- Screen all source documents to identify reportable cases including admission
and discharge documents, disease indices, pathology reports, cytology reports,
nuclear medicine reports, radiation oncology reports, medical oncology reports,
and autopsy documents.
- Assist with maintaining the suspense file for appropriate reporting of reportable
cases in the Cancer Registry database.
2. Abstract patient data according to Commission on Cancer requirements from the 30%
hospital EMR, Cancer Center EMR, and from outside facilities:
- Record patient specific demographic information in the Registry database,
i.e. patient name, residence, age, gender, race/ethnicity, and birthplace.
- Record patient specific medical history pertinent to current oncologic diagnosis,
i.e. physical findings, screening information, occupation, and any history of a previous cancer.
- Appropriately code diagnostic findings pertinent to current oncologic diagnosis,
i.e. diagnostic tests, dates and results of procedures used to diagnose cancer.
- Appropriately code cancer information specific to primary site, histology, and
Extent of disease through AJCC Clinical and Pathological Staging and SEER
Summary Staging.
- Appropriately code all cancer treatment performed at St. Luke’s Hospital as well
as treatment performed at outside facilities, including, but not limited to surgery,
radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, and palliative
care.
- Appropriately code annual follow-up information specific to subsequent cancer
treatment, recurrence, and patient vital status.
3. Lifetime Follow Up performed on all required Cancer Registry patients in database: 25%
- Lifetime data collection of disease status, recurrence information and vital status
for survival information.
4. NCDB Annual Case Submission: 10%
- If available at the time of NCDB annual case submission, expected
to participate in appropriate data quality analysis for cases included in the NCDB annual
case submission quality control.
5. State of Missouri Cancer Registry Case Submission: 10%
Expected to participate in submission of abstracted cases to
the State of Missouri Cancer Registry. Quality control of data submitted will be performed
by the employee on their own cases if available.

Employee is required to sit continuously and walk occasionally. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) load occasionally. Employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. Employee may be required to do simple grasping and pushing/pulling.

Job Relationships:
- Two years of registry or health occupation experience required, or Associate's Degree in health occupation.
