About the Position
As our Color Consultant, you will meet directly with clients at their homes and project locations to guide them through the color selection process. Our goal is to provide clients with more than just a paint job. We want to help them create a finished look that complements their home, architecture, surroundings, and personal style.
You'll work closely with both our clients and project management team from the initial color consultation through final color approval.
Responsibilities
- Meet with clients in person to discuss colors, design preferences, and the overall vision for their project
- Recommend paint colors, color combinations, trim colors, accents, and complementary finishes
- Apply knowledge of color theory, lighting, architectural style, and surrounding elements when making recommendations
- Help clients narrow down selections when they are unsure or overwhelmed by color choices
- Apply paint samples and test spots to homes so clients can see colors under real-world lighting conditions
- Photograph and document color selections for our production team
- Create digital color renderings and project visualizations using a company-provided iPad
- Maintain accurate client notes, selections, photos, and communication within our CRM
- Communicate approved colors clearly with project managers and production crews
- Follow up with clients when additional samples or revisions are needed
Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone who is creative but also extremely comfortable working directly with homeowners.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong knowledge of color theory and how colors interact with lighting, architecture, and surrounding finishes
- A naturally strong eye for color and design
- Excellent communication and people skills
- The ability to confidently make recommendations while still respecting the client's personal taste
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Comfort working independently and managing multiple client appointments
- Basic comfort with technology, tablets, photos, and digital client management
- Ability to perform light physical work, including applying paint samples and test areas to homes
- Reliable transportation to client appointments throughout the Buffalo area
Experience in interior design, exterior design, painting, decorating, architecture, visual arts, staging, or a similar field is a major plus.
Photoshop or other photo-editing/rendering experience is also a plus, but not required.
