Microschool Classroom & Operations Assistant
Embers Academy is a warm, nature-rich private microschool serving approximately 18 children in kindergarten through fourth grade. We are seeking a dependable, proactive assistant who genuinely enjoys children and takes satisfaction in creating an organized, peaceful, well-cared-for environment.
This is a unique role combining classroom support, meaningful work with children, parent communication, and the practical tasks that help a small school run beautifully. The right person will be observant, flexible, emotionally steady, and comfortable noticing what needs to be done without always waiting for instructions.
Schedule
Monday through Thursday
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Approximately 24 hours per week
School-year position beginning September 2026
Compensation
$20 per hour
For a parent enrolling one child at Embers Academy, we can alternatively offer:
- $15 per hour in wages
- A 50% tuition benefit valued at $550 per month
All wages are paid hourly based on actual hours worked. The tuition benefit is offered separately as an employment perk.
Responsibilities
- Support teachers and students during lessons, small groups, transitions, lunch, outdoor time, and meaningful work periods
- Work individually or in small groups with children on reading, math facts, handwriting, or other teacher-directed activities
- Help children navigate transitions and use predetermined support procedures when a child becomes overwhelmed or needs additional assistance
- Provide calm, respectful support to children with a variety of learning, sensory, behavioral, and developmental needs
- Lead practical and meaningful activities such as baking, cooking, gardening, laundry, classroom care, and simple handwork
- Serve as an available point of contact for routine parent communication during the school day
- Help prepare materials, assemble student binders, file completed work, and organize classroom resources
- Reset and maintain school spaces, including classrooms, the art supply cabinet, resource room, kitchen, refrigerator, garden, outdoor play spaces, and mud kitchen
- Fold and put away school laundry, wipe surfaces, replenish supplies, and help the environment remain orderly throughout the day
- Notice emerging needs and help develop simple systems that make the school run more smoothly
- Assist with special projects, school events, and seasonal preparations as needed

- Interested in wholesome food, outdoor learning, gardening, creativity, and meaningful hands-on work
- Able to remain calm and consistent when children are dysregulated or having difficulty transitioning
- Physically able to spend time outdoors, move around the campus, lift classroom supplies, and participate actively throughout the day
- Previous experience working with children is strongly preferred
- Must pass a background check and provide professional references
