Opportunity Overview
BES Solutions, Inc. is seeking qualified and experienced Phlebotomists to support onsite clinical operations at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston, Texas. This opportunity supports Veteran healthcare services through the delivery of high-quality specimen collection and patient-centered laboratory support services.
The contractor shall provide comprehensive onsite phlebotomy staffing services for inpatient and outpatient settings, supporting around-the-clock healthcare operations.
Key Responsibilities
Selected personnel will:
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection services for inpatient and outpatient Veterans
- Draw blood from routine and difficult-access patients, including geriatric, oncology, spinal cord injury, and critical care patients
- Properly identify patients using approved two-identifier protocols
- Label, process, transport, and accession specimens according to VA and laboratory standards
- Support glucose tolerance testing, urine collections, specimen processing, and laboratory documentation
- Deliver outstanding customer service while maintaining professionalism and patient confidentiality
- Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission, and VA safety standards
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must possess:
- Minimum two (2) years of recent phlebotomy experience within the last three years
- Active Phlebotomy Certification
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Experience performing high-volume collections (40–80 patients daily preferred)
- Ability to manage difficult venipunctures and “hard sticks.”
- Strong communication, documentation, and customer service skills
Work Environment & Expectations
- Services are required 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including Federal Holidays
- Staff may work day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts
- Contractors must comply with all VA orientation, HIPAA, privacy, and mandatory annual training requirements
- Personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, punctuality, and continuity of care

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Hourly Wage: $21.33 per hour
- Health & Welfare (H&W): $5.09 per hour up to 40 hours per week
Vacation Benefits
Paid vacation eligibility includes:
- 2 weeks paid vacation after 1 year of service
- 3 weeks paid vacation after 5 years of service
Paid Federal Holidays
Employees are eligible for a minimum of 11 paid Federal holidays annually.
