Crisis Counselor Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Crisis Counselor to provide immediate support and intervention to individuals experiencing emotional distress or crisis situations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in behavioral health and demonstrate the ability to effectively assess and triage clients in need of urgent care. This role requires a commitment to helping individuals navigate their challenges through individual and group counseling, while employing evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
Duties
- Conduct thorough assessments of clients in crisis to determine immediate needs and appropriate interventions.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions, utilizing behavioral therapy techniques tailored to each client's situation.
- Implement triage protocols to prioritize client care based on severity of issues presented.
- Facilitate grief counseling sessions for individuals coping with loss or trauma.
- Offer specialized support for clients dealing with PTSD through targeted therapeutic strategies.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes using coding systems such as ICD-10.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans that address clients' behavioral management needs.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices in crisis intervention and behavioral health.
Requirements
- A degree in psychology, social work, LMFT
- Experience in behavioral health settings, particularly in crisis intervention or emergency response.
- Proficiency in triage processes and individual/group counseling methodologies.
- Knowledge of behavioral therapy techniques and experience implementing them effectively.
- Familiarity with coding systems, including ICD-10, for accurate documentation.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly with clients in distress.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Certification or licensure relevant to the field.
