About Western United Electric Supply
Western United Electric Supply is a cooperatively owned electric materials distributor headquartered in Brighton, CO. We serve electric utilities, industrial customers, and commercial facilities across Colorado and the broader Mountain West region — delivering the products, expertise, and relationships that keep projects moving forward.
As a cooperative, we operate differently than traditional distributors. Our members are our owners, and everything we do is oriented around serving their success. That cooperative model — built on trust, shared investment, and long-term relationships — is central to who we are and how we go to market.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Manager of Communications & Marketing to help elevate Western United Electric Supply as the premier electrical distributor in the Mountain West. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role that sits at the intersection of brand strategy, enterprise content, member engagement, and event leadership. It begins as a hands-on individual-contributor role, with the opportunity to build and lead a team as the function grows.
The right candidate brings a creative mind, a strategic lens, and the organizational discipline to execute across multiple workstreams simultaneously. You’ll work closely with executive leadership and the board of directors, giving you a direct line to the company’s vision and the authority to bring it to life.
Key Responsibilities
Brand, Marketing & Content Strategy
- Develop and lead a comprehensive, enterprise-wide marketing and content strategy — from concept through execution — that positions Western United Electric Supply as the leading electrical distributor in the Mountain West and drives brand awareness and engagement in alignment with corporate goals and brand standards.
- Create and manage tailored campaigns targeting member utilities, industrial buyers, and commercial customers across digital, print, and direct channels.
- Own and evolve the Western United brand identity, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints, materials, and communications.
- Use data-driven insights to identify successes and gaps in communications initiatives, then refine and prioritize the most impactful approaches; analyze market trends, competitor positioning, and customer feedback to continuously sharpen messaging.
- Maximize the team’s use of current tools and technology, while proactively evaluating emerging platforms, AI, and vendor solutions to drive greater efficiency and value.
- Set creative direction, establish priorities, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality content across all channels and team members.
Corporate, Internal & Leadership Communications
- Serve as lead writer for internal corporate communications, including company-wide announcements, leadership messaging, and employee-facing content that keeps the team aligned on company direction.
- Write, edit, and refine compelling marketing, corporate, and technical content across a variety of content streams.
- Oversee strategy, composition, and updates for corporate website content.
- Ghostwrite executive communications and support the annual report, member and stakeholder reporting, and press releases for periodic financial and corporate reporting.
- Conduct market and industry research to inform annual corporate strategy reporting and planning documentation.
Member & Customer Engagement
- Lead member communications strategy — newsletters, updates, and cooperative-specific engagement initiatives that reflect Western United’s ownership model.
- Develop programs and content that deepen member loyalty, drive retention, and attract new members and customers to the cooperative.
- Develop and lead social media strategy across all channels and manage the company’s broader digital presence including website content and email marketing.
Graphic Design & Content Production
- Produce or oversee the production of high-quality materials — flyers, sell sheets, signage, presentations, digital graphics, brochures, videos, newsletters, industry applications, and proposal content.
- Maintain a library of brand assets and templates for consistent use across departments.
- Partner with vendors on co-branded marketing opportunities and product promotion campaigns.
Events — Customer & Vendor
- Spearhead the planning and execution of customer appreciation events, trade shows, open houses, and product showcases that strengthen relationships and drive sales.
- Organize and manage vendor training days, product demonstrations, and cooperative member events from concept through post-event follow-up.
- Build and manage event budgets, vendor relationships, and logistics coordination.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Own the marketing and communications function end to end as a hands-on individual contributor, with the opportunity to build, develop, and lead a high-performing team as the function grows — fostering a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and innovation.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to proactively identify storytelling opportunities, enhance communication effectiveness, and generate creative strategies that expand brand visibility and market presence.
Board & Administrative Support
- Support the smooth operation of board meetings — preparing agendas, assembling presentation materials, drafting board communications, and maintaining meeting records.
- Serve as a professional liaison between leadership, board members, and external stakeholders.
General
- Perform other tasks as assigned, with regular and predictable attendance.
- Essential functions of this position are performed at a Company-designated office.
- Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry-specific professional and ethical standards.
