Director of Soccer, Boys & Girls (Grades 6-12)

Coaches at Pinewood inspire students to challenge themselves, both on and off the field, helping them build skills that prepare them for success in sports, academics, and beyond. Approximately 65% of our students participate in after school athletic teams.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Pinewood School is seeking a Director of Soccer to lead, support, and manage all phases of the girls and boys soccer programs (grades 6-12) from September through April for the 2026-27 academic year. The Director of Soccer will collaborate with athletic directors and coaches to help improve the overall boys and girls soccer program experience. Ideal candidates should have extensive coaching experience at a competitive club, high school level or beyond and have connections in the local soccer community. This role will report to the Athletic Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee six competitive soccer teams: Girls Soccer (grades 6-8, grades 9-12) and Boys Soccer (grades 6-8, grades 9-12)
- Manage the administration of the girls and boys soccer program for grades 6-12.
- On-campus and some remote work from September - April.
- In-person and on the soccer field with teams for training and games from mid-October - early March during competitive seasons, from 3-5pm Monday - Friday. Practices and games are at Pinewood middle and upper campuses and off site.
- Collaborate with coaches to help develop a comprehensive age-appropriate soccer plan with progressive skill and tactical development for grades 6-12.
- Assist with interviewing/hiring of head and assistant coaches for all 6-12 soccer teams.
- Attend two practices and/or games a week of each team you oversee.
- Regular check-ins with team coaches to collaborate and share.
- Post-season debrief & feedback session with all 6-12 grade head coaches.
- Work with coaches to provide year-round playing & training opportunities for all players.
- Work collaboratively and effectively with the athletic directors, athletic trainers, sports performance coaches, assistant coaches, facilities personnel, and others in the school.
- Help retain quality student-athletes currently in our boys and girls soccer programs.
- Help identify outside student-athletes that would be a good fit for Pinewood.
- Help promote Pinewood School within the local soccer community.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Physical agility: frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.
- Ability to communicate and exchange information accurately and effectively with others in person and on the phone.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience playing and/or coaching soccer at the high school or college level or at competitive soccer clubs.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with parents, faculty, staff, and students in a constructive manner - even under stressful conditions.
- Ability to create a positive learning environment for players.
- Available after school and in the evenings.
- Familiar with athletics bylaws and policies within the WBAL, CCS, & CIF.
- Ability to teach and exemplify the values of Pinewood School.
- Proficient in Google Workspace; experience using TeamSnap is a plus.
COMPENSATION:
The stipend range is $18,000-$25,000 for the season (September - April). The stipend will be based on one’s previous coaching experience and qualifications. Opportunities for directing soccer camps and clinics are available and encouraged.
