About the Role:
The City of Waynesboro is accepting applications for the position of Facilities Management Technician (Entry-Level) within the Public Works Department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in facilities maintenance and gain hands-on experience across a variety of building systems and trades.
This role supports the upkeep, safety, and functionality of City-owned buildings, performing routine maintenance and minor repairs under the guidance of senior staff. Work is varied, meaningful, and impacts the spaces used by both City employees and the public every day.
Key Responsibilities Include:

Assist in maintaining HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and other facility systems

Perform basic repairs (filters, bulbs, minor plumbing, carpentry, painting)

Support preventive maintenance programs

Respond to facility work orders in a timely manner

Operate hand and power tools safely

Assist with room setups, events, and seasonal tasks like snow removal

Maintain facility cleanliness when needed

Work both independently and as part of a small team
Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED
-
Valid Virginia driver’s license

Ability to pass a background check

Willingness to obtain safety certifications (OSHA 10) within 6 months

Basic understanding of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical)

Strong reliability, work ethic, and attention to detail

Comfortable working inside and outdoors in various weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

Prior custodial, maintenance, or construction experience

Certifications in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing
Salary range of $43,799.64 to $52,000.00, depending on qualifications.
