Position Summary
We're seeking an Apprentice ICE Powertrain Operating Systems Technician to join our service department. This entry-level to early-career role is ideal for someone with basic mechanical or electrical aptitude, or technical school training, who wants to build a career diagnosing and repairing the systems that support internal combustion engine performance — including A/C, cooling, electrical, emission, and propulsion systems. You'll work alongside senior technicians to diagnose, maintain, and repair these interconnected systems.
What You'll Do
- Assist certified technicians with diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of ICE powertrain operating systems
- Learn to diagnose and service A/C and climate control systems, including compressors, refrigerant systems, and controls
- Learn to diagnose and repair engine cooling systems, including radiators, water pumps, thermostats, and hoses
- Assist with electrical system diagnostics and repair, including wiring, sensors, and control modules
- Learn to diagnose and service propulsion systems, including engine, transmission, and drivetrain components
- Learn to diagnose and repair emission systems, including EGR, catalytic converters, evaporative systems, and related sensors
- Use factory scan tools and diagnostic equipment under supervision
- Read wiring diagrams and use multimeters and other diagnostic equipment
- Inspect vehicles and report findings to senior technicians and service advisors
- Keep the work bay clean, organized, and safety-compliant
- Follow all dealership and manufacturer safety and quality standards
- Complete manufacturer-provided training and certifications as required
- Maintain accurate repair records and documentation
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of (or current enrollment in) an automotive technology program preferred, but not required
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Interest in powertrain, climate control, cooling, electrical, and emission systems
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced technicians
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a shop environment (standing, bending, lifting)
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, and a team-first attitude
- Prior mechanical, electrical, automotive, or military technical experience is a plus
