As we continue expanding in the MI, IN & KY regions, we are hiring Generator Technicians to support telecom and other commercial/industrial sites across these markets. Our culture emphasizes safety, integrity, teamwork, and technical excellence.
Position Summary
The Generator Technician will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial/industrial standby generators located at telecom sites and other customer facilities. This role is ideal for independent technicians who enjoy fieldwork, problem-solving, and traveling to different customer locations each day.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled PMs on diesel and gaseous generators at telecom and commercial/industrial sites
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults; repair or replace components such as Alternator, Battery system/charger, Governor, and Cooling system
- Troubleshoot ATS systems, generator controls (AC/DC), and power alarms
- Conduct load-bank testing, functional testing, and performance checks
- Complete oil, fuel, coolant, and filter changes per customer standards
- Maintain accurate service documentation using mobile devices
- Manage inventory on the service truck and follow company procedures
- Follow OSHA, PPE, LOTO, and all company safety requirements
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours assignments as needed
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of generator maintenance or repair experience
- Experience with CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, or similar equipment
- Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Skilled with multimeters, ammeters, and diagnostic tools
- Strong mechanical/electrical knowledge
- Valid driver's license required, with a clean driving record and the ability to qualify for vehicle rentals
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors
- Basic computer skills (email, mobile ticketing, documentation)
Preferred Qualifications
- ATS diagnostic and repair experience
- DOT medical card (or ability to obtain)
- OSHA 10, NFPA, or related safety training
- Telecom generator experience is a plus
