The Van Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of students to and from school, extracurricular activities, athletic events, field trips, and other network-sponsored events. This position promotes a safe and positive environment for all passengers while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, network, and school transportation regulations. The Van Driver is responsible for operating campus vehicles safely, maintaining required documentation, and communicating effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be at least 25 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Must meet all applicable Arizona requirements for operating a student transportation vehicle.
- Knowledge of Arizona traffic laws and safe driving practices.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate passenger vans under varying road and weather conditions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, coworkers, administrators, and network personnel.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, routes, schedules, and street locations.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.
- Safely operate a passenger van on assigned routes and for extracurricular activities, field trips, athletic events, and other authorized transportation needs.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle each day and report maintenance concerns promptly using established procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary vehicle at all times.
- Transport students in accordance with all applicable traffic laws, Network policies, and state regulations.
- Ensure the safe loading, unloading, and transportation of students, including assisting students with special needs when appropriate.
- Monitor student behavior during transportation and maintain a safe, orderly environment.
- Instruct students on transportation safety rules and emergency procedures.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, or medical situations, including administering first aid within the scope of training and notifying appropriate personnel.
- Communicate route concerns, incidents, accidents, disciplinary issues, and other transportation-related matters to supervisors and school administrators.
- Complete all required reports, route documentation, inspection records, and other required records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain current route information and follow approved schedules while exercising sound judgment regarding traffic, weather, and road conditions.
- Attend required meetings, training, and professional development to maintain required certifications and knowledge of safety procedures.
- Do not operate any vehicle determined to be unsafe until necessary repairs have been completed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the network.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and enter and exit the vehicle repeatedly throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to assist students during routine transportation and emergency evacuations.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Frequent interaction with students, families, staff, and community members.
- Work may include early mornings, afternoons, evenings, or weekends based on transportation needs.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Treat all students with dignity, respect, patience, and professionalism while fostering a safe, positive, and supportive transportation environment.
- Adhere to all Network policies, procedures, transportation regulations, and safety standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and employee information in accordance with applicable laws and network policies.
- Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and respect in all interactions with students, families, staff, and the public.
