GENERAL SUMMARY:
Perform the duties as required to assist lead teacher in providing a safe, clean, healthy environment for the children in the classroom.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Participate in lunch time activities by assisting with preparing and serving food, eating with the children, and cleaning up after meals.

Encourage the children to develop a positive self concept through supportive and cheerful interaction by assisting to create a developmentally appropriate environment where children are comfortable enough to verbalize feelings, question, explore, experiment and problem solve.

Assist with instruction by following lesson plan while adapting plans to meet individual learning styles. Promote successful classroom performance for each student.

Prepare and maintain all necessary paperwork and records according to CACFP guidelines.

Maintain an organized, clean classroom and present interesting ideas and activities to share with children.

Develop and maintain good communication while respecting confidentiality. Establish rapport and trust with parents, staff, volunteers, and visitors in order to respond to children’s environmental needs.

Provide support in all areas of the classroom, including but not limited to, maintaining a clean, safe, positive environment, maintaining accurate confidential records within applicable regulations and performance standards, assisting in conducting developmental screenings and taking quality child observations.

Assist lead teacher in supervising students in non-classroom activities such as playground supervision and dismissal.

Provide assistance to children during daily napping (if applicable) and bathroom routine by offering direction and support when needed.

In the absence of Lead Teacher, step in and perform all responsibilities of substitute teacher using prepared lesson plans.

Perform other duties or complete other projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education requirements for this position include Associate degree in related field or Infant and Toddler Center Based Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or working toward CDA credential. Prior experience working with age birth to three children preferred. Computer experience a must.

What You'll Do
-
Provide routine care of children birth to 3 years old including assistance with personal care, hygiene and hand washing, serving meals and snacks.

Maintain children's safety by providing constant supervision in compliance with staff/child ratio requirements.

Consistently assess and monitor children's general health and report concerns to supervisor and family as appropriate.
-
Complete tasks to maintain a clean, organized and safe environment indoors and outdoors.
-
Maintain and support a structured environment and routine according to Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports strategies.
-
Provide support in all areas of the classroom, maintaining clean, safe, positive environments for learning. Assist as needed in conducting developmental screenings, taking child observations, and preparing/serving food, all under guidance of the site supervisor, teacher and teacher associates.

Develop and maintain good communication while respecting confidentiality. Establish rapport and trust with parents, staff, volunteers, and visitors in order to respond to children’s environmental needs.

Daily kitchen duties including but not limited to washing dishes, checking temps of delivered food, portion food for family style dining, setting tables, cleaning and sanitizing tables.

Arrive on time and attend assigned training sessions, staff meetings and annual staff development training.
- Perform other duties or complete other projects as assigned.
What You'll Need
-
Ability to pass a physical examination and TB Screening prior to employment and thereafter as regulations require.

Ability to lift up to 35lbs, be mobile within the classroom and playground areas, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.

Ability to become certified in First Aide, CPR, Mandatory Reporter, Universal Precautions and DHS Pre-Service Essential training within 90 days of hire.
-
Ability to communicate effectively in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
-
High School diploma or GED is required.
-
College education in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Child Development Associate (CDA) is preferred.
-
Experience providing care and supervision for children preferred.
