The job of the Mobile Device Engineer was established for the purpose of providing technical oversight and strategic management of the district's mobile device ecosystem. This role is responsible for overseeing the repair, deployment, and inventory tracking of all mobile devices, including, but not limited to, Chromebooks, CTLs, iPads, laptops, and Chromeboxes.
This includes directing the weekly repair and deploy production planning, maximizing repair and deploy efficiencies, and ensuring high-quality control standards for all student hardware. Additionally, this position provides crucial mentorship to repair technicians, manages district-wide logistics for device transportation, and serves as the ultimate technical authority for mobile device operations and inventory integrity.
Deployment

Order, inventory, store, and prepare all mobile devices for deployment.

Administer and manage all mobile device deployments across the school district including Chromebooks, CTLs, Laptops, iPads, and Chromeboxes.

Schedule USSPs to assist with deployment efforts

Coordinate with school administrators to deploy and collect Chromebooks for refresh.

Repair
-
Establish, oversee, and optimize the weekly repair production plan and overall repair efficiency for all mobile devices.

Analyze and report comprehensive repair data to district leadership.
-
Ensure all Chromebooks entering the ticketing system are fully repaired and returned to their respective schools within two weeks.

Manage the warranty repair process for mobile devices, including vendor contact, shipping, storage, and part replacement.

Facilitate the correct storage and scanning of Chromebooks within the repair area.

Personally perform advanced technical repairs on Chromebooks and laptops.

Design, deploy, and supervise the Quality Control (QC) process, personally completing repairs and performing final QC checks.

Author, update, and maintain Quick Reference Guides (QRG) and technical documentation for repair technicians.

Leadership

Develop and manage repair technician work schedules at least two weeks in advance, and conduct regular performance and production review meetings with staff.

Coordinate with the Technical Services Assistant Director regarding the district pony van logistics schedule to transport Mobile Devices totes securely to and from schools.

Respond to team member messages and IncidentIQ tickets in a timely manner.

Lead, motivate, train, and foster a collaborative environment for the repair technician team.

Collaborate frequently with the Technical Services Head Administrative Assistant regarding the billing process to improve billing practices for parts and repairs.

Onboard and train new repair technicians, using agreed-upon practices and a comprehensive onboarding and training curriculum.

Track, facilitate, and manage Dell certifications and professional development paths for all technical staff.

Mobile Device Storage Units

Manage, audit, and maintain an accurate, district-wide inventory of Chromebook carts, parts, and specialized components.

Coordinate Chromebook cart repairs, replacement, and storage.

Parts and Inventory
-
Coordinate the Chromebook replacement part procurement process by ordering, organizing, tracking, receiving, and entering the parts into the inventory system.
- Coordinate the parting-out process.

Manage IIQ assets and asset reporting relating to mobile devices

Regular, punctual, and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Consistent presence is required to meet project deadlines, support scheduled installations, respond to infrastructure issues, and coordinate with technical staff and school-site personnel.

Skills: Expert-level hardware diagnostics and repair skills; strong technical writing skills for instructional documentation; data analysis capabilities for production metrics; master-level organizational and project scheduling skills.

Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of ChromeOS, Google Admin Console, deployment strategies, and hardware ecosystems (specifically Dell Chromebook lines); full understanding of supply chain, parts procurement, and inventory auditing practices; deep familiarity with quality control methodologies and technical training practices.

Abilities: Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor a team of technical professionals; ability to manage strict logistical timelines across multiple district locations; ability to communicate technical metrics clearly to non-technical stakeholders; ability to lift heavy equipment (such as Chromebook stacks and Chromebook carts) and handle detailed, high-volume tracking data.

Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in enterprise hardware repair, electronics technology, or technical systems management, with a demonstrated history of technical leadership, team mentorship, or shop management.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, enterprise certifications (such as current Dell Certified Systems Expert/Technician designations), or highly relevant hands-on technical leadership experience.
