Objective: To ensure the safety and well-being of each child and engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Adhere to protocols, policies, and procedures including but not limited to disciplinary policies, Safeguarding God’s Children protocols, and safety and health protocols, in order to provide a safe environment for all students.
Ensure that roll call is taken at the start of each session and children are accurately noted as present or absent. Maintain awareness on a daily basis of the number of children in their care and consistently count and monitor the number of students.
Supervise children actively while keeping them safe at all times, which includes constantly observing and listening for any troubling or inappropriate behavior. Utilize appropriate classroom management techniques to address inappropriate behavior.
Assist children with homework completion.
Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development.
Ensure that physical property (building, supplies, and furnishing therein) is cared for and not damaged or defaced. Report any property damage to supervisor immediately.
Maintain an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children.
Serve snacks to children and clean up the preparation and eating areas afterwards, including cleaning tables and sweeping floors.
Return supplies and unused snacks to designated areas each day.
Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service. Refer all parent/guardian concerns and/or questions to supervisor.
Report any troubling information shared by a child to supervisor immediately.
Complete an incident report for any injuries or incidents.
Attend all staff meetings and training sessions.
Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of St. Andrew’s at all times.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional school environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms above the head and reach forward. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a part-time position with hours ranging from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Experience working with children in a structured setting such as a school, childcare facility, church, etc.
Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.
Possess awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities.
Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner that reflects that values of the school.
Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with students, coworkers, and parents/guardians.
Be punctual.
