St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center – North Campus (FTC-N), a Missouri Department of Mental Health forensic inpatient facility, has a position for a licensed (LPC) or license-eligible licensed professional counselor (PLPC). The position is currently open with start date negotiable.

What you’ll do: St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center – North Campus (FTC-N) is a 100-bed inpatient forensic psychiatric hospital serving adults committed to the Department of Mental Health as incompetent to stand trial. Serving a large area of the state, FTC-N treats males and females from a highly diverse catchment area that includes rural, urban and suburban populations.
The licensed professional counselor hired for this position will be responsible for providing treatment and conducting other clinical duties on a 25-bed inpatient competency restoration treatment unit. The facility is seeking a person for whom inpatient treatment and working within a team setting is a passion.
The licensed professional counselor will provide individual and group therapies to individuals committed as incompetent to stand trial. As such, considerable knowledge of individual and group psychotherapy with persons who have severe and persistent mental illness, neurocognitive impairment, intellectual impairment, and personality disorders is required. Experience in the treatment of substance use disorders will also be an asset. Specific training in Competency Restoration interventions is provided.
The licensed professional counselor in this position is an integral part of the multidisciplinary treatment team, and will participate in team decision-making, treatment planning, and consultation with psychiatry, psychology, pharmacy, nursing, social work, and rehabilitation staff. Thus, expertise in facilitation of the team process will be an important skill.
Duties include:
- Develop and implement individual treatment plans.
- Conduct individual therapy and lead treatment groups.
- Complete necessary treatment documentation.
- Opportunities to supervise based upon eligibility in the State of Missouri.
- Participate in hospital wide committees and other leadership opportunities available within the hospital.
All you need for success:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related social services field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current licensed professional counselor (LPC) or under active supervision for licensure (PLPC).
- If not licensed at time of hire, must attain license within two years.
