Part-Time Hardware Store Floor Floater (plumbing experience preferable)
Position Summary: The Floor Floater is a crucial, cross-functional role responsible for stepping into any department—including the sales floor, receiving, cashiering, and specific specialty areas like plumbing (preferably) to provide coverage and support where needed. The ideal candidate is a dependable, responsible, proactive self-starter with a broad understanding of hardware products and a commitment to helping both customers and fellow team members.
Key Responsibilities
· Customer Service Excellence: Greet and assist customers throughout the store, helping them find products, answering questions, providing DIY advice, and offering recommendations based on their project needs.
· Flexible Departmental Support: Move between departments (e.g., plumbing, hardware, electrical, lawn & garden, cashiering) as directed by management to fill staffing gaps and manage workflow.
· Store Operations: Assist with general store maintenance, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and ensuring a clean, organized, and safe environment on the sales floor, stock room, and outdoor areas.
· Inventory & Merchandising: Stock shelves, restock merchandise from overstock, set up product displays and signage, conduct cycle counts, and process incoming shipments as needed.
· Specialized Tasks: Learn and perform specific tasks such as cutting keys, mixing paint, cutting and threading pipe, and assisting with special orders (training provided for specialized equipment or software).
· Team Collaboration: Work cooperatively with all team members and management, giving and receiving constructive feedback to ensure efficient operations and a positive workplace.
Qualifications & Requirements
· Experience: Previous retail, customer service, or a related field experience is preferred. A strong general knowledge of hardware, specifically plumbing, and home improvement products is highly valued.
· Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment are essential.
· Physical Demands: The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Must be physically capable of lifting and moving merchandise up to 40-50 pounds regularly.
· Flexibility: Must be reliable and available to work a flexible part-time schedule, which includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on the needs of the business.
· DIY Aptitude: Possess a proactive willingness to learn about new products and a basic understanding of common home improvement projects to effectively assist customers.
· Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
