Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Software Test Engineer to support the verification and validation of advanced military communications systems, including radio gateways, tactical networking solutions, and portable 5G cellular infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in network protocols, cybersecurity concepts, requirements-based testing, and test automation. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, reliability, interoperability, and security of mission-critical communications systems deployed in demanding operational environments. The successful candidate will work closely with software developers, systems engineers, and program managers to develop comprehensive test strategies, execute test activities, and support continuous process improvement..
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze system and software requirements and transform them into detailed, traceable test plans, test procedures, and test cases.
- Design, develop, execute, and document functional, integration, system, regression, interoperability, and acceptance tests.
- Verify compliance with customer, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and scripts using technologies such as Groovy and other scripting languages.
- Perform testing of complex IP-based communications systems, including tactical networking and radio gateway platforms.
- Capture, analyze, and troubleshoot network traffic using tools such as Wireshark.
- Investigate software defects, perform root cause analysis, and work closely with development teams to resolve issues.
- Validate secure communications architectures, cybersecurity controls, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) implementations.
- Conduct interoperability testing with military communications and cryptographic equipment.
- Support formal qualification testing, customer demonstrations, and field evaluations.
- Maintain test documentation and artifacts in accordance with organizational quality processes and CMMI Level 3 standards.
- Participate in design reviews, requirements reviews, and risk assessments.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of test methodologies, automation capabilities, and quality assurance processes.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
- 3+ years of software test, system test, integration test, or quality assurance experience in networked systems environments.
- Experience developing requirements-based test plans and procedures.
- Experience with test automation and scripting.
Technical Knowledge
Strong working knowledge of networking concepts and protocols, including:
- TCP/IP, UDP TLS/SSL, SIP, VoIP technologies, IGMP, ICMP, DNS, NAT, NTP, Syslog, DHCP, LDAP, RADIUS
- Routing and switching fundamentals
- Network performance and troubleshooting techniques
Experience with:
- Wireshark or equivalent packet analysis tools
- Network test and traffic generation tools
- Client-server and distributed systems architectures
- Linux and/or Windows operating environments
- Software defect tracking and configuration management systems
Cybersecurity Knowledge
Working knowledge of:
- Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
- Digital certificates
- Encryption technologies
- Authentication and authorization mechanisms
- Secure communications architectures
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience testing military, tactical, or mission-critical communications systems.
- Familiarity with military communications security (COMSEC/COSEC) equipment and procedures.
- Experience with equipment such as AN/PRC family radios, KY-58M cryptographic, devices, and KY-100M cryptographic devices.
- Experience testing radio gateway systems, tactical networks, or cellular communications systems.
- Familiarity with 4G LTE and/or 5G networking technologies.
- Experience with automated test framework development.
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
- Experience working within CMMI-certified organizations.
- Understanding of systems engineering processes and requirements traceability.
