Jive Turkey Southern Kitchen is Detroit's go-to spot for all-turkey soul food done right. From turkey wings to smothered turkey chops, we put our own spin on the classics — bold flavor, real ingredients, and a whole lot of love. We're expanding to our Gratiot location and need a motivated cook to help us hit the ground running from day one.
The Opportunity
We need a skilled and dependable Production Cook to help open and operate our new Gratiot location. This role is critical — you will be one of the first team members at this site, responsible for getting the kitchen ready each morning, preparing and warming our signature dishes, and ensuring every order that goes out meets the Jive Turkey standard.

Shift Details
Days: Monday through Sunday (schedule TBD)
Hours: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Type: Part-Time or Full-Time depending on availability
Start Date: Immediately — location opens next week
What You'll Be Doing
- Open the kitchen and prepare the space for service each morning
- Warm, prep, and portion turkey proteins and soul food sides following Jive Turkey recipes and standards
- Maintain proper food temperatures and storage protocols throughout the shift
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and stocked during service
- Monitor food quality before it goes to customers — every plate matters
- Support to-go order fulfillment during peak morning and lunch hours
- Communicate low inventory or supply needs to the manager on duty
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health code requirements
- Learn new menu items as the Gratiot menu develops
What We're Looking For
Required
- Prior experience in a commercial or restaurant kitchen (1+ years preferred)
- Ability to work independently and stay on task without constant supervision
- Reliable — this location is counting on you to show up and show out every shift
- Comfortable working morning shifts starting at 8:00 AM
- Knowledge of basic food safety practices (temperature control, cross-contamination, etc.)
- Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience with soul food preparation — turkey, greens, mac and cheese, cornbread, etc.
- ServSafe Food Handler certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Prior experience opening a kitchen or working in a counter-service environment
- Positive attitude and team-first mentality
