We are seeking a reliable, caring, and energetic Cook/Floater to join our child care center team. This unique position is perfect for someone who enjoys preparing nutritious meals for young children while also being willing to jump in and support classrooms and staff throughout the day.
As our Cook/Floater, you will play an important role in creating a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for children. You will be responsible for meal preparation and kitchen operations while also providing classroom support when needed.
What You'll Do Kitchen & Meal Preparation
- Prepare and serve nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks in accordance with approved menus and child nutrition guidelines.
- Plan and prepare weekly menus that meet USDA and CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program)requirements.
- Maintain familiarity with CACFP meal patterns, portion requirements, food components, and documentation.
- Follow CACFP guidelines for meal service, substitutions, and dietary accommodations.
- Accommodate food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special nutritional needs while following established safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate meal counts, food production records, and other required CACFP documentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen in accordance with health and food safety regulations.
- Monitor food inventory, place supply orders, rotate stock, and minimize food waste.
- Follow proper food storage, preparation, temperature, and sanitation procedures.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
Floater Responsibilities
- Provide classroom coverage and support teachers as needed throughout the day.
- Assist with daily activities, transitions, meals, routines, and supervision.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment for children.
- Step in where needed to support the smooth operation of the center.
- Build positive and respectful relationships with children, families, teachers, and team members.
- Follow all center policies and procedures related to child supervision, health, safety, and confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in food preparation, commercial kitchens, schools, child care centers, restaurants, or similar settings preferred.
- Familiarity with CACFP requirements and USDA child nutrition guidelines strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, menu planning, and kitchen operations.
- Experience accommodating food allergies and special dietary needs preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and adapt to changing daily needs.
- Dependable, positive, team-oriented, and comfortable working around young children.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Must successfully pass all required background checks and meet applicable child care employment requirements.
