As a missionary disciple of Jesus Christ, Youth Ministers of Saint Bridget of Sweden Parish are responsible for working with the Director of Faith Formation and the Pastoral Team to build and maintain a vibrant community of teens who want to live-out their faith
Essential Functions:
- Evangelizing young people and their families
- Assist with large parish projects and encourage youth to participate; projects include but are not limited to: parish picnic and mid-summer movie night
- In conjunction with the Director of Faith Formation, coordinate the Confirmation Preparation program
- Organize retreat experiences and days of prayer for the youth
- Plan and organize an annual mission trip for the youth or similar experience
- Maintain necessary office and program records, including a log of activities and time
- Build a core team of adult volunteers who can assist in ministry
- Ensure all adult volunteers have met diocesan Safe Environment guidelines
- Keep the parish faith community informed of the youth ministry activities and goals
- Prepare and produce advertisements for youth ministry meetings and youth events
- Coordinate community volunteer service hour opportunities for parish youth
- Develop a relationship with parents that are conductive to open communication between parents and youth
- Recruit, train, and assign youth leaders
- Coordinate participation in diocesan sponsored programs
- Serve as an advisor and support to youth leaders
- Complete grant applications and reviews for youth ministry
- Set annual goals and objectives for each program offered
- In conjunction with the Director of Faith Formation, develop high school and middle school youth groups
- Develop a Fellowship of Christian Athletes program or a similar program for our youth
- May be asked to perform other duties and is willing to assume other responsibilities as directed
- Knowledge of Catholic theology with an understanding of and commitment to the Catholic Church and its mission
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication and listening skills, especially with youth.
- Good computer skills in Microsoft Office
Weekend and evening work hours are required
Educational Requirements:
BA or MA preferred; preference to those with additional theological/Faith Formation education or training
- Proficient in use of Internet, Social Media, and email
- Good record keeping and facilitation skills
- Ability to present oneself professionally
- Basic knowledge of accounting and budgeting
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work effectively and efficiently including developing and maintain effective record-keeping systems
- Ability to represent the parish well to those that call, write, or visit
- Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to adapt to small office setting with changes in routine or schedule
