Organization: Pioneer Foundation, An Independent Foundation associated with The Cathedral of All Saints in the City and Diocese of Albany
Role Type: 1099 Independent Contractor. Flexible hours from 20 to 40 hours per week as negotiated.
Reports To: Dean of the Cathedral (in their capacity as a Pioneer Foundation Board Member)
Location: Hybrid, Work from home and stated hours at the Cathedral offices in Albany, NY.
Position Overview
The Pioneer Foundation seeks a results-driven Advancement Officer to serve as a primary catalyst for growth and sustainability. This individual will design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support two primary pillars: the historic preservation of the Cathedral’s iconic architecture and the funding of non-sectarian community programming.
As an independent contractor, the Advancement Officer will work autonomously to identify, cultivate, and solicit support from foundations, corporations, and individual donors. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional to bridge the gap between heritage preservation and contemporary community impact.
Scope of Services (Key Responsibilities)1. Grant Research & Writing
- Identify federal, state, and private grant opportunities specifically for historic preservation and community-based non-sectarian programs.
- Draft, compile, and submit high-quality grant proposals and follow-up reports.
- Maintain a calendar of deadlines and ensure compliance with all grantor requirements.
2. Corporate & Individual Giving
- Develop and implement a strategy to engage corporate partners through sponsorships and social responsibility initiatives.
- Cultivate relationships with high-net-worth individuals, managing the full donor lifecycle from identification to stewardship.
- Design and execute targeted fundraising appeals (annual fund, major gifts, or specific capital campaigns).
3. Strategic Advancement
- Collaborate with the Dean to align fundraising goals with the Foundation’s long-term vision.
- Develop messaging that highlights the Cathedral buildings as civic assets and community hubs.
- Provide regular reports to the Pioneer Foundation Board regarding progress against revenue targets.
Qualifications & Expertise
- Proven Track Record: Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in non-profit development, fundraising, or grant writing.
- Preservation Knowledge: Familiarity with the unique requirements of funding historic landmarks and capital projects is highly preferred.
- Communication: Exceptional writing skills and the ability to articulate the value of non-sectarian community programming to a diverse audience. Ability to understand and strategically utilize social media.
- Autonomy: Experience working as a 1099 contractor, with the ability to manage time, resources, and deliverables independently.
Network: An existing network of philanthropic contacts within the greater Albany area is a significant plus.
Pay: $37.00 - $55.00 per hour
