Armed Security Officer / Special Police Officer (SPO) / Private Detective
Discreet Security Services & Investigations, LLC (DSSI) is actively expanding our team throughout the State of Maryland and is seeking experienced, professional candidates for multiple assignments.
We are currently accepting applications for:
- Maryland Armed Security Officers
- Maryland Special Police Officers (SPO)
- Maryland Private Detectives / Investigators
- Current and former law enforcement officers interested in security, SPO, investigative, or special-assignment work
Compensation
Starting at $30.00 per hour and up, depending on assignment, credentials, experience, responsibilities, and position.
Higher compensation may be available for qualified Special Police Officers, experienced investigators, law enforcement personnel, supervisors, and specialized assignments.
These positions are primarily offered as 1099 independent contractor opportunities. Certain full-time or long-term assignments may provide an opportunity to transition to W-2 employment, depending on the position and assignment.

Armed Security Officer
Applicants seeking armed security assignments should possess or be eligible to possess all Maryland credentials required for the assignment.
Responsibilities may include:
- Armed protection of persons and property
- Access control and visitor screening
- Vehicle and foot patrol
- Incident response
- Deterrence and prevention of criminal activity
- Emergency response
- Report writing and documentation
- Enforcement of client rules and property regulations
- Coordination with law enforcement and emergency services
- Special events and temporary security details
Maryland Special Police Officer (SPO)
We are especially interested in applicants who currently hold or have previously held a Maryland Special Police Officer commission.
SPO assignments may include:
- Uniformed Special Police services
- Patrol and crime deterrence
- Enforcement activity within granted authority
- Response to criminal and emergency incidents
- Trespass enforcement
- Arrest when legally authorized
- Traffic and access control
- Detailed incident and enforcement reporting
- Coordination with local law enforcement agencies
Applicants who have completed SPO training but are awaiting or require agency-specific commissioning are also encouraged to apply.
Private Detective / Investigator
DSSI is also expanding its investigative division and is seeking experienced investigators and individuals currently certified or eligible for certification as a Maryland Private Detective.
Potential assignments include:
- Surveillance
- Background and due-diligence investigations
- Workplace investigations
- Domestic and civil investigations
- Interviews and witness statements
- Locates
- Evidence collection and documentation
- Investigative research
- Report preparation
- Specialized investigative assignments
Prior law enforcement, military investigative, private investigative, or comparable professional investigative experience is strongly preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Depending upon the position and assignment, applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Be legally eligible to work in the United States
- Successfully complete applicable background and credential verification
- Possess all licenses, permits, certifications, and firearms credentials required for the assignment
- Maintain professional appearance and conduct
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
- Be capable of producing professional incident or investigative reports
- Be dependable and able to report to assignments on time
- Be capable of working independently and as part of a team
Armed assignments require all legally required Maryland firearms credentials.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Current Maryland Special Police Officer commission or prior SPO experience
- Current Maryland Security Guard certification
- Maryland Wear & Carry Permit
- Current Maryland Private Detective certification
- Current or prior law enforcement experience
- Military experience
- Executive protection experience
- Investigative experience
- Prior armed security experience
- Supervisory or command experience
- CPR/AED/First Aid or advanced medical credentials
- De-escalation and defensive tactics training
- OC, baton, handcuffing, or TASER certification
- Strong report-writing skills
Scheduling
DSSI maintains assignments throughout Maryland with varying schedules.
Opportunities may include:
