We is hiring an Estimator to lead our San Diego Ship Repair Estimating Team. The candidate will estimate preservation, decking and lagging work. The candidate will report directly to the Estimating Manager of our San Diego Facility.
The candidate will be responsible for leading Estimating Department in the development of bids in accordance with the Customer’s Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Quotes (RFQ). The candidate will be required to review the specifications (4E Spec) and calculate/estimate production labor hours, materials, and subcontractor costs.
The candidate will work closely with our Management Teams to ensure a detailed turnover is conducted to help in the successful planning/execution of various projects.
Additionally, the Estimator will be required to maintain strong customer relations, by interacting with and facilitating two-way communications between the Management Team and new and existing Customers. Attend and participate in business development meetings and industry events as required.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Must be able to articulate, recommend, and write a proposal strategy and assure that all risks and opportunities are balanced appropriately.
- Prepare time-based estimate spreadsheets and cost reports for review by the Management Team, customers, and government representatives.
- Able to work independently or as a team in a fast-paced environment with changing requirements and deadlines.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Willing to seek inputs/ideas from internal and external customers.
- Must be able to read technical drawings and associated work packages and develop estimates using customer-provided drawings, photos, and sketches to develop itemized bids in the required formats.
- Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of Ship Repair trades operations, processes, and procedural requirements.
- Must be able to board ships, enter confined spaces with limited visibility, and climb up and down stairs and/or ladders of varying heights to complete ship checks or inspections.
- Ensure that requirements of the safety and quality handbook are properly followed and enforced
- Perform similar, incidental, and other duties as assigned by the Estimating Manager and Executive Management team
