Temporary Administrative Laboratory Director
Location: West Chester, PA Schedule: Temporary Assignment, 40+ hours per week
We are seeking an experienced Temporary Administrative Laboratory Director to provide leadership and operational oversight for a high-performing hospital laboratory. Working in close partnership with the Medical Director and hospital leadership, this individual will oversee laboratory operations, quality programs, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and team development.

What You'll Do:
Laboratory Leadership

Provide strategic and operational leadership for laboratory services across the organization and affiliated locations

Lead, mentor, and develop laboratory managers, supervisors, and staff

Establish departmental goals, policies, and procedures aligned with organizational objectives

Create and maintain an effective organizational structure, staffing model, and succession planning strategy

Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Operations & Regulatory Compliance

Oversee daily laboratory operations to ensure quality, efficiency, and timely reporting of results

Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, CLIA, CAP, and accreditation requirements

Maintain laboratory licenses, certifications, and accreditations

Evaluate and support enhancements to laboratory information systems (LIS) and related technologies

Monitor key performance indicators and operational metrics to drive performance improvements
Financial Management

Develop and manage operating and capital budgets

Monitor departmental financial performance and resource utilization

Support revenue integrity initiatives and ensure compliance with payer requirements

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining high-quality service delivery
Quality & Performance Improvement

Partner with Medical Directors to oversee quality assurance, quality control, and performance improvement programs

Lead investigations and corrective action plans related to audits, inspections, and quality findings

Analyze laboratory performance data and implement continuous improvement initiatives

Promote best practices that enhance quality, safety, service, and operational effectiveness
Strategic Planning

Collaborate with physician leadership and hospital administration to support organizational goals and patient care initiatives

Evaluate emerging laboratory technologies, testing methodologies, and service expansion opportunities

Participate in strategic planning efforts and health-system initiatives
Communication & Collaboration

Partner closely with clinical leaders and stakeholders to ensure laboratory services meet patient care needs

Facilitate regular team meetings and departmental communications

Present operational updates, quality metrics, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership

Promote strong interdisciplinary relationships across the organization
What You'll Bring:
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Laboratory Science, or a related field

7+ years of progressive experience in a clinical laboratory environment

4+ years of laboratory leadership, supervisory, or management experience
-
Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, quality systems, and regulatory requirements

Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS)

Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage change, and drive operational improvements

Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
-
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution abilities

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field

ASCP certification

Experience managing laboratory budgets, accreditation activities, and large-scale operational initiatives
Salary, Benefits, & Shift:

$65-$75/hour
