Position Summary
The Project Engineer is a temporary, 2-to-3-year fixed-term position brought on to support the Operational Technology team during a period of unprecedented growth in transmission, generation, and distribution projects. This role serves as the critical connective tissue between OT Apps, Telecommunications, System Operations, Project Management, and Substation/Relay engineering groups. The primary focus is to ensure flawless project tracking, proactive information flow, and timely data delivery so that OT Applications and Telecom can implement system changes without delays.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Inter-Departmental Coordination & Information Flow
- Bridge the Gap: Serve as the primary liaison between the OT Applications team, Telecommunications, and the Transmission Substation and Relay departments.
- Proactive Data Gathering: Request, track, and secure all necessary engineering design data, point lists, and technical documentation from the Substation and Relay departments, ensuring it is delivered to OT application engineers ahead of schedule.
- Requirements Gathering: Interface directly with Telecom and OT Applications teams to identify their specific information requirements, ensuring they have the exact data needed on time to execute system changes.
2. Project Tracking & Meeting Management
- Centralized Tracking: Maintain a master tracking mechanism for all upcoming transmission, generation, and distribution projects affecting OT departments.
- Meeting Facilitation: Schedule, coordinate, and document critical project meetings. Ensure actionable minutes, technical blockers, and next steps are clearly communicated to all stakeholders.
- Deadline Accountability: Follow up on action items across departments to guarantee that no OT Apps or Telecom milestone falls behind.
3. Short-Term Horizon Planning & Field Alignment
- Weekly Alignment Meetings: Lead a weekly project review meeting with the OT departments and System Operations specifically focused on the 6-month operational horizon.
- Field-to-Office Coordination: Ensure that upcoming field construction, commissioning schedules, and operational cutovers are tightly aligned with EMS/SCADA modeling and Telecom readiness.
- Risk Mitigation: Identify potential scheduling conflicts between field execution and control room operations early, escalating constraints before they impact project timelines.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Experience: 2–5 years of engineering experience, ideally within a utility, power systems, or industrial automation environment.
- Project Management Skills: Strong organizational skills with a proven track record of managing project logs, tracking deliverables, and holding cross-functional teams accountable.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; comfortable leading meetings that bridge the gap between field technicians, design engineers, and system operators.
- Technical Familiarity: Basic understanding of utility infrastructure (substations, protection relays, telecommunications, or SCADA/EMS systems) is highly preferred to effectively translate data needs between teams.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of concurrent projects.
Pay: $77,936.22 - $93,858.67 per year
