We are seeking an experienced Anesthesia Coder/CPC for our client based in New York.
Independent Contract/1099 Position, 40 hours per week. Monday - Friday business hours - EST.
The Anesthesia Coder is responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and accurately assigning CPT and ICD-10 codes for anesthesia services. The ideal candidate excels in a fast-paced environment, maintains high accuracy standards, and contributes to meeting departmental productivity goals.
This position reports to a Coding Team Lead and plays a key role in ensuring compliant, timely, and accurate coding practices.
Key Responsibilities
Review handwritten and electronic anesthesia records to identify procedures and diagnoses
Assign accurate CPT and ICD-10 codes in accordance with current guidelines
Post charges and ensure compliance with payer and regulatory requirements
Reconcile posted charges against operating room schedules
Identify and investigate anesthesia time discrepancies; escalate complex issues as needed
Maintain minimum 95% coding accuracy and meet daily productivity benchmarks
Communicate effectively with internal teams regarding coding questions or issues
Adhere to all HIPAA and compliance standards
Qualifications
Required Certification: CPC (AAPC) or CCS (AHIMA)
Minimum 2+ years of professional anesthesia or surgical coding experience
Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and coding guidelines
Familiarity with EPIC (preferred)
