We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Occupational Therapist to join our team.
The School-Based Occupational Therapist (OT) provides evaluation, intervention, and consultation services to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 plans. The OT supports students’ participation in educational activities by addressing fine motor, sensory processing, visual-motor, self-care, and functional skills required for success in the school environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct occupational therapy evaluations and write comprehensive evaluation reports.
- Participate as a member of the Child Study Team (CST) and IEP team.
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational therapy goals and objectives in accordance with IEPs.
- Provide direct therapy services individually and in small groups.
- Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to support student success.
- Consult with staff regarding classroom accommodations, adaptive equipment, and strategies to promote independence.
- Support students with fine motor development, sensory processing, handwriting, visual-motor integration, self-care, and executive functioning skills.
- Maintain accurate documentation, service logs, progress notes, and compliance records per NJ DOE and district requirements.
- Contribute to behavior intervention and functional skill development plans when appropriate.
- Participate in professional development and maintain required licensure and certifications.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, NJ Administrative Code, and district policies.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution
- Valid New Jersey Occupational Therapist License
- NJ Department of Education Certification as a School Occupational Therapist
- Registration with NBCOT
- Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and school-based therapy practices
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a school-based or pediatric setting
- Familiarity with NJ special education regulations
- Experience working with diverse student populations and disabilities
