Welcome House Inc. is currently looking to fill the role of Direct Support Professional for our community center. The position will be responsible to implement person centered services as well as establish relationships with community members that will enhance the lives of the individuals supported by Welcome House.
BASIC FUNCTION:
The position works under the direct supervision of the Day and Community Outreach Manager and in cooperation with the individual and individual’s team members as well as other people the individual has deemed important to them in their lives. They will also be responsible to establish relationships with community members that will enhance the lives of the individuals supported by Welcome House.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote good hygiene and grooming for residents. Assist with personal care (bathing, showering, toileting, shaving, dental & nail care, etc.).
- Administer and supervise the residents in the taking of medications and treatments and record those activities under the direction of a nurse. DSP1 will obtain med-pass certification within 90 days of hire*.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule. Actual duties may vary according to the client’s needs, specific assignment, or work site.
- Maintain, record, and review required documentation regarding the personal progress and skill development of each resident and provide recommendations regarding the residents to the Program Supervisor, or the Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP).
- Implement and document interventions as prescribed by the Individual Service Plan (ISP), Program Director, or the QIDP.
- Transport residents to and from activities outside the home. May represent them at support services, including medical appointments, in coordination with the nurse.
- Meal preparation for residents and with specific residents as applicable.
- Responsible for the security, domestic chores, and light maintenance tasks; both inside and outside the home. Provide guidance and assistance to the residents in the completion of household chores.
- Advise maintenance staff of any needed repairs that cannot be done by the on-site staff.
- Maintain the facility food and non-food inventories.
- Ensure all fire exits/pathways are free and clear of debris, snow, and other safety hazards.
- Promptly report major unusual incidents to leadership or member on the Administration Team, and accurately complete an Unusual Incident Report (UIR).
- Will become and remain aware of Welcome House Policies and Procedures; as well as federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and ordinances.
- Attendance is a required and essential expectation of the job.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- This position is not eligible for remote work.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Meets DSP job and skill requirements, job related attributes, and values.
- Maintain Med Cert 1 certifications.
- Med Cert 2 and Med Cert 3 certifications as needed based on trained sites.
- Must remain current with CPR/First Aid certifications.
- Must complete 8 hours of Annual Training each year.
- Capable of exercising good judgment, acting responsible, receiving feedback, and guidance.
- English literacy and communication skills.
- Fulfills all appropriate orientation and training.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Age 21 years or older.
- United States citizen or legal immigrant.
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License with less than three violations in the past three years and no convictions of OVI, vehicular homicide, driving without a suspension, or tickets over 10+ mph.
- Must Provide proof of auto insurance. *
- Satisfactory ability to lift - up to 50 pounds, transfer clients safely, complete household chores, and respond quickly to emergencies.
- Satisfactory visual and auditory surveillance, alertness, stamina, and dexterity.
- Desire to work with individuals with disabilities in a caring environment.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Attendance is a required and essential expectation of the job.
