Position Title: Career Navigator
Location: Brownsville Community Culinary Center (BCCC), Brooklyn, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: 40 Hours per Week
Salary: $60,000 Annually
Travel Requirement: Frequent travel throughout the five boroughs of New York City required
Position Summary
The Career Navigator is responsible for supporting participants ages 18–40, including new job seekers and individuals returning to the workforce after involvement with the justice system, periods of unemployment, or other employment barriers. The Career Navigator provides intensive career coaching, job readiness training, case management, employer engagement, and placement services designed to connect participants to meaningful employment opportunities.
The Career Navigator will maintain a strong focus on workforce outcomes and is expected to assist participants in securing employment within 90 days of enrollment whenever possible. This role requires strong relationship-building skills, knowledge of workforce development practices, and the ability to travel throughout New York City to meet with employers, training partners, community organizations, and participants.
The Career Navigator must operate in alignment with BCCC's mission to empower individuals through workforce development, economic mobility, and community advancement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Participant Recruitment & Enrollment
- Recruit and enroll eligible participants into BCCC workforce development programs.
- Conduct intake assessments to identify employment goals, skills, barriers, and support service needs.
- Develop individualized employment and career plans for participants.
- Maintain participant files and documentation in accordance with program requirements
Career Coaching & Case Management
- Provide one-on-one career coaching and ongoing case management services.
- Assist participants with goal setting, career exploration, and workforce readiness.
- Conduct regular progress meetings and monitor participant engagement.
- Connect participants to supportive services including housing, transportation, childcare, mental health resources, and financial literacy programs.
- Maintain accurate case notes and participant records.
Job Readiness & Employment Placement
- Facilitate workshops on: Resume development, Interview preparation, Workplace professionalism, Communication skills, Digital literacy, Job search strategies, Assist participants with job applications and employment documentation.
- Match participants with employment opportunities aligned with their career goals and qualifications.Work toward placing participants into unsubsidized employment within 90 days of enrollment whenever possible.
- Conduct placement follow-up and retention support services.
Employer & Community Partnerships
- Develop and maintain relationships with employers throughout New York City.
- Conduct outreach to businesses seeking qualified candidates.
- Coordinate hiring events, recruitment fairs, and employer information sessions.Collaborate with training providers, educational institutions, and community-based organizations.
- Represent BCCC at workforce development meetings and networking events.
- Data Management & ReportingTrack participant outcomes including enrollments, placements, retention, and wage progression.
- Prepare timely reports and documentation required by funders and program leadership.
- Ensure compliance with workforce development program policies and performance standards.
- Utilize workforce databases and case management systems effectively.
- Outreach & Travel Travel throughout New York City to conduct employer visits, participant meetings, networking events, job fairs, and partner engagements.
- Represent BCCC professionally within the community and workforce development sector.Assist with community outreach efforts to increase program awareness and enrollment.
Qualifications
Required Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred in Human Services, Social Work, Workforce Development, Education, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of two years of experience in workforce development, career coaching, case management, job placement, or related services.
Experience working with opportunity youth, justice-involved individuals, or populations facing barriers to employment.
Strong knowledge of workforce systems and labor market trends.
Excellent communication, coaching, and motivational interviewing skills.Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management systems.
Ability to travel regularly throughout New York City.
PreferredWorkforce development certifications.
Experience with NYC workforce development programs and performance-based contracts.
Existing employer relationships within hospitality, culinary, retail, healthcare, logistics, construction, or customer service industries.
Bilingual proficiency. Performance Expectations
The Career Navigator will be expected to: Maintain an active caseload of 20 - 30 participants.
Develop individualized employment plans for all participants.
Conduct regular participant follow-up and engagement activities.
Establish and maintain employer partnerships throughout NYC.
Achieve participant placement goals.
Support participants in securing employment within 90 days of enrollment whenever possible.
Monitor and support participant job retention and career advancement.
