Job Summary: Island Exterior Fabricators is seeking a hands-on Robot Technician / Operator / Programmer to support the implementation, programming, and optimization of robotic systems used in custom façade fabrication. This role will focus on robotic welding, grinding, polishing, and finishing processes within a high-mix, low-volume production environment.
The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between engineering, fabrication, and automation, ensuring robotic systems are efficient, flexible, and aligned with project-specific requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Configure, program, and operate robotic systems (primarily Universal Robots) for welding, grinding, polishing, and finishing applications
- Set up and deploy robotic workcells for custom and low-volume fabrication projects
- Develop and modify robot programs to accommodate varying geometries and one-off/custom parts
- Integrate robotic systems with welders, tooling, sensors, and safety components
- Analyze fabrication processes and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements
- Optimize robotic operations to improve cycle times, repeatability, and surface finish quality
- Design and implement flexible fixturing and quick-change tooling concepts
- Troubleshoot robotic systems, diagnose issues, and implement corrective actions
- Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and QC teams to translate manual processes into automated workflows
- Train shop-floor personnel on robot operation, safety procedures, and best practices
- Maintain documentation for robotic programs, setups, and process standards recommend and implement process improvements to increase throughput and reduce manual effort
- Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues across robotic and peripheral systems
- Authority to standardize procedures and maintain version control of programs
Skills and Experience
- Approve and implement tooling, fixturing, and end-of-arm configurations within established standards
- Make real-time program changes to support production needs and resolve issues.
- Adjust process parameters (speed, pathing, tooling) to meet quality standards
- Stop production or escalate issues when quality or safety is at risk
- Enforce proper usage and safety compliance for robotic systems
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Experience programming and operating Universal Robots (UR3, UR5, UR10, UR20) in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes
- Experience integrating: the ability to read and interpret end of arm tooling, sensors and vision systems, PLC’s and automation.
- Ability to read and interpret: mechanical drawings, weld symbols, and fabrications documentation
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a hands-on, shop-floor mindset
Hourly range: $25 - $40
Location: Calverton, New York [Onsite]
Schedule: Mon-Fri 6:00am-2:30pm or 7:00am – 3:30pm

ADA Requirements: The position requires the ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds, and work in environments that may involve bending, climbing, or exposure to heat and sparks. Proper PPE will be provided to ensure safety.
