Summary:
Midwest Psychological Center is seeking a full time Recreation Coordinator to work at the Heritage Trail Correctional Facility in Plainfield. The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and operation of the facility’s recreation program that includes activities for all inmates.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops, plans, and monitors a wide variety of recreational activities.
- Schedules inmates for passive and active recreation, indoors and outdoors, assuring that the recreation program is available during times when inmates are not participating in work/academic assignments.
- Plans program tournaments.
- Encourages inmates to be involved in recreational activities in order to develop and foster sportsmanship, camaraderie, and sense of fair play among inmates.
- Submits reports and data as required.
- Consults with other members of the Programs and Security Department in order to develop a team approach to inmate needs.
- Helps inmates understand and experience the fact that exercise and participation in sports is a healthy way to release negative emotions.
- Helps to enforce the rules and regulations of the facility.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Physical education, recreational therapy or related field is preferred.
- Prior experience working with an inmate population or in a physical education program is highly desirable.
- Must display leadership and motivational qualities.
- Good communication skills and be dedicated to the goals of the facility.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $34,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
