Title: PRN Histotechnician
Reports to: Laboratory Manager
Schedule: PRN shifts are 1-3 days/week Mon-Fri starting between 3a and 4a. Shifts can range 3-5 hours/shift depending upon availability. Maximum PRN hours allowed are 20/week.
Pay Rate: $30/hr - $40/hr DOE
Classification: Hourly; Non-Exempt
Responsibilities:
The PRN Histotechnician performs routine and nonroutine activities involved in the preparation of the slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s) under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager to provide the best patient care in compliance with WPA SOP’s, CLIA and CAP. Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Primary responsibilities will be embedding and microtomy of GI and Breast specimens for H&E staining.
- Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.
- Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
- Ensure proper tissue processing.
- Embed processed tissue in paraffin
- Perform microtomy of embedded tissue.
- Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
- Perform cover slipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
- Perform filing of finished blocks and slides.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and troubleshoot minor equipment failures. Document remedial actions such as repairs and repeated test.
- Adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies, and document all quality control activities.
- Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met.
- Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with GI and Breast specimens.
- Strong embedding and microtomy skills for specified specimen types, averaging 1 block embedding or 1 slide microtomy per minute and no less than 50 of either per hour.
- 1/+ years current experience performing embedding and microtomy
- Ability to work in a fast-past, deadline driven environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and general working knowledge of LIS systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to teamwork and coordinated participation to meet organizational goals.

- Desire to learn, continuously improve and grow, and train others
- Experience processing a broad spectrum of tissue types for small biopsies and routine surgicals

Phoenix, AZ has become a relocation and growth capital for its desert beauty and acclimate climate. Our new, modern laboratory comprises several thousand square feet with sprawling windows inviting in the great mountain views and sunshine.
WPA is a CAP-accredited private group pathology practice founded in 1990. Our main laboratory is located adjacent to HonorHealth John C. Lincoln Medical Center. The practice consists of four board certified anatomic and clinical pathologists serving the HonorHealth network, various outpatient radiology practices, and private physicians’ offices in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.
