Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Yard Technician is responsible for maintaining the organization, cleanliness, readiness, and safe operation of equipment within the yard. This role supports daily operations through equipment washing, greasing, fueling, inspections, trailer loading assistance, and customer service. The technician helps ensure all equipment is prepared, inspected, and ready for delivery, pickup, or use while maintaining company safety and quality standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Wash, clean, and prepare heavy equipment, vehicles, trailers, and attachments
- Perform routine greasing, fluid checks, fueling, and basic preventative maintenance
- Record fuel levels, machine hours, inspection findings, and service needs accurately
- Conduct pre-use and post-use inspections for damage, wear, safety concerns, and quality control
- Assist with loading and unloading equipment onto trailers safely and efficiently
- Secure equipment and attachments for transport using proper tie-down procedures
- Organize and maintain the yard, equipment staging areas, and storage locations
- Assist customers, drivers, vendors, and team members with equipment pickups and returns
- Report maintenance concerns, damages, safety hazards, or operational issues promptly
- Operate forklifts, skid steers, pressure washers, and other yard equipment safely
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment
- Follow company safety policies, DOT requirements, and operational procedures
- Support shop and operations teams as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous experience working around heavy equipment, construction equipment, trailers, or industrial environments preferred
- Ability to safely operate or learn to operate forklifts and equipment
- Basic mechanical knowledge preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to complete inspections accurately
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, and working outdoors
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and industrial environments
- Ability to safely climb on and around heavy equipment and trailers
Work Environment
This position works primarily outdoors in a heavy equipment yard and shop environment around moving machinery, trucks, trailers, and construction equipment. Proper PPE is required at all times.

- Trailer loading and equipment securement experience
- Forklift certification
