Subscription Sales Closer — The Routine
Job Type: Part-Time
Location: Remote
Expected Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week
Compensation: Commission-Based + Performance & Retention Bonuses
About The Routine
The Routine is an online basketball and performance development company built to help athletes improve through structured training, accountability, education, and long-term coaching.
We work with athletes who want more than random workouts or quick fixes. Our programs are designed around consistent development in areas such as basketball skill development, strength and conditioning, athletic performance, confidence, accountability, and overall player development.
Our goal is to give athletes the structure, coaching, and guidance they need to continually progress toward their goals.
As The Routine continues to grow, we are looking for a Subscription Sales Closer who can help qualified prospects understand the value of long-term coaching and convert them into monthly recurring clients.
This is not a traditional customer service role and it is not simply about getting someone to make a one-time purchase.
You will be responsible for helping athletes and their families understand their current challenges, identify what is preventing them from reaching the next level, and determine whether The Routine is the right coaching solution for them.
About the Role
The Subscription Sales Closer will primarily work with warm and qualified leads who have shown interest in The Routine's basketball or performance training services.
Your responsibility will be to guide prospects through a structured consultation process, understand their goals, explain the appropriate coaching program, handle objections, and confidently ask for the sale.
You should be comfortable having conversations with athletes, parents, basketball players, trainers, and performance-focused clients.
The best candidate understands that selling coaching is different from selling a product.
You are selling:
- Accountability
- Structure
- Expert guidance
- Consistency
- Long-term development
- Personalized coaching
- Confidence
- A clear development plan
You should be able to communicate why committing to a monthly coaching program can create significantly better results than jumping between random workouts, trainers, or short-term programs.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct Consultation & Discovery Calls
Lead structured sales consultations with athletes, parents, and prospective clients.
During these conversations, you will:
- Understand the athlete's current skill level
- Identify their basketball and performance goals
- Learn about previous training experiences
- Identify weaknesses, frustrations, and obstacles
- Understand what they have already tried
- Determine how serious they are about improving
- Identify what level of coaching and accountability they need
- Recommend the appropriate Routine training option
The goal should be to understand the prospect before attempting to sell them anything.
Close Monthly Coaching Subscriptions
Clearly communicate the value of The Routine's recurring training programs and confidently guide qualified prospects toward becoming clients.
You should be comfortable explaining why long-term coaching produces better outcomes than one-time workouts or short-term programs.
You will be expected to:
- Present coaching options clearly
- Explain program benefits
- Communicate pricing confidently
- Create urgency without using unnecessary pressure
- Ask for the sale
- Guide prospects through the enrollment process
- Follow through until the client is officially onboarded
Handle Sales Objections
Prospects may have concerns involving:
- Pricing
- Monthly commitments
- Time availability
- Parents needing to discuss the decision
- Previous training experiences
- Unsure whether online training will work
- Comparing The Routine to other coaches or programs
- Wanting to "think about it"
You should be capable of listening to these concerns, identifying the real objection, and helping the prospect make an informed decision.
We are looking for someone who can handle objections confidently without becoming aggressive or overly pushy.
Follow Up With Leads
Not every prospect will enroll during the first conversation.
You will be responsible for maintaining consistent and professional follow-up with qualified leads through channels such as:
- Email
- Text
- Instagram or other social platforms
- Phone calls
- Scheduled follow-up consultations
Strong follow-up is an important part of this position.
You should be organized enough to know exactly where each lead is within the sales process and when they should be contacted again.
Manage the Sales Pipeline
Maintain accurate records for prospective clients.
This may include tracking:
- New leads
- Consultation calls scheduled
- Calls completed
- No-shows
- Follow-ups
- Prospect concerns
- Program recommended
- Closed subscriptions
- Lost opportunities
- Monthly recurring revenue generated
- Client retention
We want someone who treats lead management seriously and does not allow qualified prospects to disappear because of inconsistent communication.
Set Proper Expectations Before Onboarding
A successful sale should also create a successful client.
You will clearly communicate what clients should expect from The Routine before they enroll, including:
- The importance of consistency
- The athlete's responsibility within the program
- Communication expectations
- Coaching structure
- Training expectations
- The long-term nature of athlete development
Setting the correct expectations during the sales process helps improve client satisfaction and retention.
Represent The Routine Brand
You will often be one of the first direct conversations a potential client has with our company.
You must represent The Routine with:
- Professionalism
- Confidence
- Energy
- Integrity
- Strong communication
- Knowledge of basketball and athletic development
We want clients to feel that they are speaking with someone who genuinely understands their goals and cares about helping them improve.
Compensation
This is a commission-based sales position with strong upside for high-performing closers.
Compensation may include:
- Commission for every subscription closed
- Performance bonuses based on monthly sales
- Retention-based bonuses
- Additional incentives for hitting sales targets
- Increased responsibility and compensation as the company grows
There is no predetermined cap on earning potential for someone consistently generating new recurring revenue.
Because The Routine operates using monthly subscriptions, strong sales performance can directly contribute to the growth of recurring monthly revenue within the company.
Growth Opportunities
We are looking for someone who may eventually grow beyond being only a closer.
High-performing team members may have opportunities to develop into positions such as:
- Senior Sales Closer
- Sales Team Lead
- Head of Sales
- Client Success Lead
- Sales & Client Success Manager
As The Routine grows, we want our strongest team members to grow with the company.
Someone who consistently generates sales, communicates well with clients, understands our systems, and demonstrates leadership could eventually help recruit, train, and manage additional sales representatives.

- Previous sales, closing, or customer acquisition experience
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Confidence speaking with prospects over the phone or video calls
- Experience handling sales objections
- Ability to confidently discuss pricing and financial commitments

- Online coaching
- Fitness programs
- Basketball training
- Personal training
- Sports performance services
- Memberships
- High-ticket services

- Basketball development
- Skill training
- Strength and conditioning
- Athletic performance
- Player development
- Youth and high school basketball
- Training consistency
- Long-term athlete development
You do not have to be a professional basketball coach, but you should be able to confidently communicate with athletes and parents about the development process.

The ideal candidate may be:
- A former basketball player
- Current or former athlete
- Basketball coach
- Trainer
- Fitness salesperson
- Online coaching closer
- Performance-minded salesperson
- Someone experienced in membership or subscription sales
More importantly, you should believe that meaningful athletic development requires consistency, structure, accountability, and time.
You should be capable of explaining that philosophy to prospective clients in a way that makes them excited about committing to their development.
